Agree. What’s your take on iPad with MacOS?
*
Yeah I mean iPadOS has its limitations because its a tablet, but its a darn good tablet OS nevertheless.

This iPad with MacOS reminds me of the Surface range- which until today, I still envy that device alot. I mean you pay almost the same for an iPad with keyboard but you get a full fledged OS (with some minor limitations). Defo can do more than what you have on iPadOS.

But interestingly, Microsoft also have the laptop variant of the Surface - so it doesn't actually cannibalize one another, just catering to different people's needs.

Sidenote - bummer that the Surface has bad quality control - especially on the hardware front. Apple to me, has been perfect - never had any hardware failure throughout my entire 'association' with the brand, speaks volumes of its quality control.

If Apple is worried about cannibalization, they wouldn’t have come out with a 12.9 inch iPad Pro. Regardless of OS, it will definitely cannibalize sales of entry level MacBooks.

It is a strategic decision by Apple not to put macOS on the iPad Pro. For Microsoft, it was an easy decision to include full fledged Windows in their Surface Pro - Windows is their biggest strength. But that is not the case for Apple. macOS is nowhere as popular as Windows. On the other hand, the iPad is ubiquitous as a tablet. Even hardcore Android fans will agree that the iPad is better than any Android tablets available. It is smart for Apple to build on from the existing iPad user experience.

macOS is the present for Apple, while iPadOS is the future. To me, the beauty of iPadOS is all the additional features like Slide Over, Split View, and mouse support do not complicate the core experience of using an iPad. If you just want to use an iPad Pro to read, play games, or browse social media, it is as simple to use as any iOS device. But if you want to do more, the multitasking features are there. Don’t forget iPadOS now is still pretty much in the infant stage, so more powerful features will come.

Many children nowadays are growing up with iPads as part of their life. By the time they reach university, they won’t be looking to get a Windows laptop, or a MacBook. It would be the iPad Pro. 😉
*
Yeah man, iPad is a new norm of this generation - so much can be done with it and it changed behavior completely. Back in my days, MacBooks were the cool thing in Unis, now its iPad Pros. You carry a Macbook and they'd be thinking.. what's that? sweat.gif

After watching the review of he magic keyboard, didn’t interest to me anymore, you cant bend it when you want to write or draw, need to remove it and there’s no protection on the side. Ill 3rd party keyboard.
*
Guess the Magic Keyboard is just for table / lap usage as a 'laptop' rather than a tablet. Bonus is, its easy to remove from the keyboard, so its a plus point there.

Doubt its durable enough to carry it with your bare hands, need to put in a pouch or case to be safe.

Tomorrow onwards, there's gonna be happy days happening!
I'm keen to get the coverbuddy but will only be available on 25th April according to their website. It's only on preorder.
Know anyone in Malaysia is the agent? Or anyone have bought directly from switcheasy website, I want to know the shipping costs.
*
I've read the current Coverbuddy write up - only gripe is that the magnets doesn't sit too well with the Magic Keyboard. The magnet's aren't as strong with the case on when attached to the Keyboard. You get it an let us know laugh.gif

Nope. It's going to the Delivery Hub then only they will arrange for Delivery, depending on the schedule.

When it's out for delivery, then it will be 'OUT FOR DELIVERY' .

Question, do you guys plug your iPads to monitors via USB C cable?

I have a 90w PD monitor and I was planning to keep it plugged to the monitor, but I'm worried over the long hours of usage, it will affect the battery- although it will be capped at the max watt the device is able to consume.

Picked up my 12.9 Pro yesterday from Machines - immediately felt the difference between the 11 and 12.9 in terms of weight.

Bummed that we still can't get 16:9 aspect ratio when plugged in to a monitor, the experience of using an iPad connected to a monitor and just removing it for tablet mode is just so seamless.

Not sure if Logitech will develop one for the 12.9inch thou - seems like most of the 3rd party only develop for 11 inch.

So I got the Coverbuddy to tag along my iPad Pro 12.9 and turned out that it can’t close / shut properly despite it being a ‘Made for Magic Keyboard’ model.

Overall a bit disappointed with the Coverbuddy. The MK however, its pretty heavy and the trackpad is so tiny, kept running out from the space - too used to Macbook’s trackpad.

Im using the same combo, MK with coverBuddy I have no issue. It fits perfectly well.

You ordered directly from Switcheasy?

I read that those ordered before June will be affected due to the magnets - especially for 12.9 inch.

I bought from Lazada or Shopee.

Do you mind sharing the shop and also a photo of your MK & Coverbuddy? Very curious tongue.gif

Mine doesn’t close, so I assume there’s something with the magnets that does not seem to ‘stick’ the case with the keyboard.

I think you got a lemon unit. Try contacting SwitchEasy. They honour the RMAs. There were already few cases where in order to get a replacement unit, you need to actually agree to them (but must contact them and they have to agree to send a new unit to you first) to destroy your unit before they send a new replacement unit.

I mean, the way I understood is,

1) contact SwitchEasy.
2) once confirmed that they will replace and re-ship to you, they will ask for proof.
3) the proof is you need to destroy the cover in a certain manner. Then send the video of you doing that, or the end result, and send the video to them.
4) Once confirmed genuine, then they’ll send you a replacement unit.

At least that’s what I understood from the reddit threads.
*
Thanks, does this require it to be purchased directly from Switcheasy or can just be any unit purchased locally?

I was reading about this issue on Reddit as well - who knew mine would turn out to be a lemon unit 😑

I wish the Magic Keyboard wasn't made with this soft touch material, especially the edges.

Though it is sturdy and pretty comfortable to type on, I keep getting paranoid thinking if I will damage the edges when opening the keyboard. The material on the keyboard is just so not ready for outdoors, especially on wet surfaces / rough surfaces.

Of that I'm not so sure but still I think you should contact them. I think it's only fair for them to compensate you.
*
Thanks, I returned it to the local seller, got back my refund.

I just placed order from the website directly this time, should be a 'revised' version - I can't live without the Coverbuddy knowing that I use it in tablet mode most of the time to write notes.
