When green lines and sudden death screen happened to the very top tier samsung phone even the foldable one, ppl start questioning whether it really worth to spend so much money getting a phone that can died without any warning.

It is not a fair statement to imply that green line/sudden death only happens to foldables. Candy bar style phones have the same fate too.

Phones are not built to last forever. Just enjoy the additional advantage brought by the foldables. :-)

Replacing the screen display after warranty for foldable will cost a bomb compared to candy bar phone display.
That because you need to change nearly everything from the outer frame to the hinge for screen replacement. While candy bar phone only need to replace the display.
For foldable a 2 year warranty is a must and you better sell the phone before that warranty expired.

I have flip 3. Already out of warranty and have a malfunction flux connector under the hinge that make the phone main display went black after the phone flip closed. Service centre technician said i need to change the outer body frame AND the main display although the main display still function if i do hard reset and keep the phone flipped open. He said it is because the flux connector come together with the display. And to change the display he need to change to outer frame also.
You see how problematic and expensive just to change the flux ribbon connector.? It will cost you RM1.3K..!! And you will get a new screen as well. In the end i just let it be and now the flip 3 have multiple green lines that make nearly impossible to see the writting under those pesky lines.

As for my Fold 4 , the flux connector goes faulty after 18 months. I'm lucky it still under the 2 years warranty. Fixed it for free and get a new display, new outer frame and new battery also. The SA told me that he not sure how long can the new flux connector will last. He said the same thing can happen again and it will cost RM2.2K for the same procedure. I sold the phone a month later to avoid risking all these not counting green lines that might come later on like my flip 3.

What i'm trying to say is this. I don't mind paying if the things happen because of my own fault like rough usage or dropped the phone on the pavement. What i cannot accept is it happen because of the samsung own hardware that was faulty and yet samsung expect us to pay if it happen after out of warranty. Are you okay with that..? Less than 3 years pristine phone that never dropped and doesn't have a single scratch suddenly went kaput and dead out of nowhere. And you have to pay RM2K to fix the problem that you have nothing to do with it.

For a top tier samsung flagship phone that cost nearly RM8K today price, i do expect i can use the phone atleast 5 years without any issue.

I understand your stand on this. I fully agree to your assessment of repair cost. But foldables does have its pros and cons. One have to weight the cost of ownership and see if it fits one's requirements. It is still not a very mature technology, like those candy bar phones.

I have been to Samsung Store and tried out the new foldables. The flat corners are interesting and bring a very industrial feel to the phones. I am leaning towards the Flip 6. Very interesting :-)

It is 15% discount + rm500 ROI? You didnt go for trade in rm500?

I think it is either 15% discount OR RM500 ROI. Not both.

for the calculation of trade in, are you using a z fold 5 for trade in? I think we can fetch better price selling as used phone in the wild. that way, your new ownership cost will be much lower. what do you think?

I think 23xx for a used z fold 5 is ridiculously low......

Hi. Wanna ask. I owned previous fold devices. But I have since sold them and now no longer have any fold. I’ve logged in Samsung Members app during the ownership.

Will I still be eligible for the free 3 year care +?

Are you going to sell your iPhone? If you are keeping it, can use WhatsApp companion link. Use fold as a secondary device.

Hai, I'm planning to get the Z Flip 7 but one thing I would like to confirm beforehand.
Hope the user of Z Flip could advise me on this.

I know Samsung Wallet can be done on the cover screen, swipe up.
But, can I pay/scan QR eWallet via the cover screen without opening the phone?
Like the ewallet apps on the widget cover screen, select the app and point the camera to QR for payment? Can?
*
Don't think it is possible. For example, using TnG for scan to pay, it would be impossible to point the camera at QR code with the phoe closed.

Just saw this ‘Hinge Protection Film’ by Ringke.

Anyone tried it before? Very interesting indeed with an installation bracket.

I would always encourage everyone NOT to use hinge protector like this type. The foldable phone's hinge mechanism is very delicate and undue/extra pressure with this type of protector will probably add more stress to the mechanism. May reduce the lenght of its service life.

However, I am not en engineer.... sweat.gif
