^ try contact Djiin at GH or Bernard at GS. maybe they can get SGP units from SGP distributors. if really spoil (chances are low) they can help send back to their distributor for RMA services.

i think currently M'sian shops are selling Asian versions from HK (cause the cost is cheaper at HKD3780).
Asian versions include HK, SGP, TWN and S.KOR.
if u buy a SGP set, and if hardware problems occur, you can try contacting Sony Style SGP to fix it while under warranty. i don't know how to differentiate between a HK and SGP set though.
in general, "asian units can play games with european n US dudes" but certain games connect to regional servers. e.g Motorstorm will connect to regional servers only.

QUOTE(engineered_miri @ Oct 8 2007, 09:54 AM) a'aa kena salute dgn usaha sony untuk membentras piracy.. and yes rasanya kali nih derang menang aku suka soalan2 mamat tuh pasal kat mana nka beli game, berapa harga game, bila pes 2008(oh yeahhhh...) akan kuar... teirngat aku zaman aku mula2 beli ps3 dulu PES 2008 is a PAL release. PAL releases are never cheap, simply because the prices incorporates EU taxes and their currency is uber-strong. just a heads-up.

for ppl who don't plan to play NSTC/J ps2 games in their ps3, best option is to wait and get 40GB sets next month. playing ps2 games on ps3 is like using a VGA convertor for a ps2. the image is slightly cleaner at 480p, thats all.
40GB sets supposedly has lower power ratings, cooler and more quiet. upgrading the hdd is a simple DIY task. if possible try getting a SGP set (most Malaysian shops sell HK sets only) cause they have been cases of dead lense syndrome mostly with asian 60gb sets.

QUOTE(colorwolf @ Oct 22 2007, 09:51 AM) My parent will be going Japan for holiday. I plan to ask my parent to get me a PS3 from there as it will be cheaper around RM400-RM500 compare with Malaysia market price. Is there any things I need to play attention to when getting an such big electronic hardware from oversea. Please advice... well, i never been to japan so i don't know anything about sales tax or discounts at their stores. they also have stores that sell 2nd hand stuff that is in pristine condition. do rmb, the ps3 box is big and heavy! if u get taxed at Malaysian Kastam, the RM400-RM500 savings is also gone.

the status on backwards compatibility on 60GB/80GB sets are not up to date. Sony PR says team doing BC is being scaled down to reduce cost for ori NTSC/J JPN titles, can try http://www.jp.playstation.com/ps3/status/index.cgi^note the whole thing is in JPN though for ori NTSC/J Asian titles, no site is available.

haha, JB usually have the best deals if u know your way around. KL prices is higher due to other overhead cost - distributer mark-up, transportation, etc.

^ i think SGP don't have any special x'mas promotion or discounts. maybe just some low key bundles at sony stores. try window shopping around. the ps3 is heavy, sometimes buying locally also a good option. HK got some x'mas promotions in conjunction with Asia Game Show http://asia.playstation.com/eng_hk/index.php?q=node/1246

er.. can play pirated ps1/ps2 games on a modified 20/60/80GB set. but the mod-job is risky and the lense is prone to failures, i doubt many ppl want to risk it.
want to enjoy pirated games, there's always ps2/psp/wii/dsl/360 etc. don't worry, with some careful planning and financial management, ps3 games are still within reach (demos/trading games/renting/PSN games, etc....)

^haha, whether worth or not is hard to answer. depends on individual and how much they want to spend on their games and hobbies. can always check out ooj's game rental service or trade games with forumers here.
but ps3+free PSN demos for <RM1500 in my opinion is worth it. even if u really grow to hate PS3 after that, can always resell at garage sales - LoL
