What's the problem? Cant seems to troubleshoot.. Front port and back usb port also same. Happens with 2 of my external HDD.. But pendrive doesn't shuts it down. USB hard disk powered dock doesn't shuts it down. Another hard disk adapter to usb also won't. What could be the problem? PC is fairly new including power supply.. Any ideas? Forgot to add that if plugged in before turn on computer, the portable hdd works fine.

All pendrive or some pendrive only? Sound like your pendrive have voltage issue which cause it to suck power causing your pc to shit down.
Kindda same like usb killer mechanise

usually that happens when it detects a short. Can change cable for your USB HDD and try again?

likely there isnt much power supplied thats why when it try draw power it shut down do this.. get a connector with DUAL USB head ; plug first the cable to the PC ; then only connect the HDD https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32889799072.html

I suspect sudden spike in usb power draw from the power supply's 5V line cause the PSU to shut down, indicating the weak PSU issue. This post has been edited by edministrator: Feb 25 2020, 12:00 PM

If PC shutdown after plugged some USB drive, somewhere is short circuited especially the 5V + and -, most likely the USB drive, usb cable, or the usb port short circuit.
This is one of the protection feature iirc.
