Hmm, it's playable too without OC but in some situations the frame rate will drop below 40 FPS.

Here's another take at 3DMark06 with higher clocks (680/1360/570). I took the laptop to an air-conditioned room and OC the heck out of it. Anything higher than this clock will result in graphical artifacts.

oh crap! you just beat my record!! very impressive, you are now top on the OC list.

you must be having one of those good batch of 8600M GT with a very overclockable set of DDR2 RAM.

i am actually expecting you to hit the elusive 5000 Mark for our 8600M GT because of the extra 20MHz in clock speed for RAM you pushed. 8600M is extremely bandwidth hungry due to the limited 128-bit bus used, so any increment in RAM speed will show better result than the same amount of increment in GPU speed. moreover, you cranked another 20MHz from core too! also, be very careful when operating at that speed. 650/550 is already very close to the edge.

for me, physX reduced my 3Dmark06 by almost 1k points. and you are right, enabling and disabling it in nvidia physx control panel makes no difference. i had to unintsall physx to get back that 1000 poin loss. the irony is that, the benchmark does not support physx!

Just hit the 5000 3DMark line using ForceWare 177.79. The new forceware actually reduces the 3DMark by a little bit.

Anyway, Inspiron 1520 is still offered on the DELL website. But the GPU is not configurable and it's stuck with 8400M GS. I think they're currently clearing the remaining stocks of their Inspiron and moving to Studio model for the laptop flagship.

You can use RivaTuner to overclock. Every graphic cards can be overclocked, it is not limited to a certain model of laptops.

WARNING!
Overclocking can result in hardware failure, shorter lifespan of hardware, and it is not covered by DELL warranty. So, be very careful when you overclock.

TS, u sure your battery is made in Malaysia?
Cuz mine 9-cell battery is SANYO brand and made in Japan. Till now still ok.

Does the Physx improve the gameplay smoothness and quality? Does it worth it to install it?

Every chip (although it's same model of graphic card) has different amount of overclockability. You simply have to try it yourself to know the limit of your laptop.

Yea, I'm also impressed by the OC'ability of the 8600M GT. It's almost an increase of 40% for each of the clocks. It's performing like a 8700M GT now.

Try this:-
1) Turn off PowerMizer (Google for Powermizer Switch)
2) Update your graphic driver
3) Set the Battery Option to "High Performance"
4) Link the Shader Clock so that it's 2x the Core (e.g. Core 580/ Shader 1160)
