Yes you can use, but be wary about the warranty
If something goes wrong, you will have to send the router back to China as ASUS Malaysia does not entertain imported unit |

QUOTE(bao5221 @ Feb 19 2020, 12:51 PM) Can use in Malaysia but don't buy the used set. Especially the US used set, the quality is bad. If you want to buy this router in cheap price, better go for the new China set. Make sure the router is new in a fully sealed box. This post has been edited by junclj: Feb 19 2020, 02:44 PM |

ASUS router firmware are universal, can be used in any region. No worries. But bear in the mind, if something goes wrong, ASUS Malaysia won't entertain your warranty claims. |

Imported set is quite easy actually, just login your pppoe id and password, then go to IPTV settings change to Unifi-Home. Then you can go online already. |

QUOTE(Zot @ Feb 20 2020, 03:06 PM) You meant imported model not for Malaysia market has Unifi-Home selection? Unless it is flashed with Malaysia firmware I doubt .... Asus router is using global firmware, just the BIOS inside of the router was locked to different region. The China set only has 2 languages, Simplified Chinese and English only and the wifi region was set to China region as default. However, you can change to Asia or Australia region for the wifi. Probably every countries are using different bands on their own country optical fiber broadband. When you connect the Asus router to a Unifi BTU, it will automatic show up Unifi-Home, Unifi Business, Maxis-Home, Maxis Business in the IPTV settings. If you connect to TIME BTU, the router may showing up TIME-Home and TIME-Business too. Since TIME is using the different band, so my router does not showing up TIME in the IPTV list. Just pick your ISP, then done and ready to enjoy and surf your internet. ![]() |

Damn, I just bought the US refurbished set that you could find on Lazada. Hope I didn't make the wrong choice for not picking the import China set :/
Reason why I didn't go for the China set was because the US refurbished seller allows for 1 to 1 replacement if anything goes wrong. The China set seller seems a bit more tricky to claim warranty. This post has been edited by IntensiveBytes: Feb 20 2020, 06:27 PM |

One potential issues that may happen after some time is malfunctioning 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz. |

Hope I didn't make the wrong choice for not picking the import China set :/ Don't think about the warranty issue if you want to buy cheap Asus router. Usually the new China set rarely has malfunctioning/fault issue as long as you buy the 100% complete new and fully sealed box from the sellers. I got one China RT-AC86U bought at October 2018 which is still serving me until today. If you are still worried about the China set may get malfunctioning, make sure you have to buy and attach the Asus router fans. Reason why I didn't go for the China set was because the US refurbished seller allows for 1 to 1 replacement if anything goes wrong. The China set seller seems a bit more tricky to claim warranty. Don't buy the US refurbished set, I have bad experienced with it already. Just back to December last year, the router just get malfunctioning after 2 weeks of usage. This router is what we described as "foreign trash". Do you know what is foreign trash? ![]() The Chinese dealer buy the malfunctioned routers then send them to repair. After repair done, then resell them to us. However, the router is really has very bad quality. I was experienced it before. You see now why I already threw it then buy another one new China set for my home AiMesh node. This post has been edited by junclj: Feb 21 2020, 09:38 AM |

Guys, please don't buy the US set. I just received mine today and it's been problematic. As another person on this thread told me, 2.4GHz and 5GHz wifi has massive issues. Well, I just got mine today and the exact thing is happening
2.4GHz wifi doesn't work, 5GHz wifi keeps disconnecting and speed is barely 5Mbps on my 1Gbps connection. So to those of you reading this be careful if you're getting the US 'refurbished' set. Now debating if I wanna get China brand new set or shell out the extra RM400-500 for Malaysia set. This post has been edited by IntensiveBytes: Feb 23 2020, 03:00 AM |

Lesson learned. 2.4GHz wifi doesn't work, 5GHz wifi keeps disconnecting and speed is barely 5Mbps on my 1Gbps connection. Restarting the router fixed it, but let's see how long until it comes back again. So to those of you reading this be careful if you're getting the US 'refurbished' set. Now debating if I wanna get China brand new set or shell out the extra RM400-500 for Malaysia set. Just go for MY unit. Peace of mind. |

Can't even stream a video locally from my NAS. Filed for a return claim via Lazada, might have to just pick up a unit at a store tomorrow... |

QUOTE(sHawTY @ Feb 23 2020, 08:17 AM) Yeah you are right. I bought the 'refurbished US' set from Lazada here, RM788: https://www.lazada.com.my/products/asus-rt-...s229208529.html I was basing my pricing off of the 'China' one here for RM688: https://shopee.com.my/-Ready-Stock-ASUS-RT-...7763.2663858875 I think both are actually 'US' refurbished from China based on the description of the Shopee one. I thought that was a brand new China set, but I was mistaken. Apparently, there are still sellers on Shopee with local ready stock claiming to be selling 'Brand New' units for ~RM800, for example this one: https://shopee.com.my/-Ready-Stock-ASUS-RT-...7763.2663858875 And this one: https://shopee.com.my/-Ready-Stock-ASUS-RT-...7763.2663858875 Anyway, I just picked up an MY set this morning at All IT for RM1099.
