Good luck guys doing business with YouTube. Just remember don't rely too much on YouTube Adsense, if you ever eligible to. No problem if you doing this for hobby or simply gaining audience.

I was an active youtuber between 2015 to January 2019. I stopped doing it when YouTube decide my videos are not original enough to be monetized. Before this they only demonetize uploaders who get copyright strike. But I guess now they took more proactive role.

Although I have another idea for youtube channel but YouTube behavior lately that like to change policy every few months aren't convince me to keep going. So I left focusing on my other businesses.

what is your content and what happened here and then?

I wont share my channel here for the sake of anonymity but I can describe how my videos are copyright-wise: Most of my videos basically a top 10 compilations and you guess it, compiling all materials (image or videos) into one video and slap some subtitles and musics.

I rarely produce my own material. But the things is, I discipline myself by only took CC-BY or public domain materials from vimeo, flickr, and youtube itself. So legally, I never infringe anyone copyrights and, in fact, my channel till today still have zero copyright strike. Just that YouTube decided (probably decided by their A.I) to demonetize my channel last year due to too many contents taken from other videos.

I've tried to reapply for monetization but failed. The only way to get monetized again is by deleting all my compilation videos.

Since my channel got 80K subs, it still worthy to try another genre but this time using my own content entirely. But after a quite contemplation, I decide is not worth a time since YouTube become reckless nowadays by changing their policy too often, and also, I already have few other businesses that more worthy to focus on.

So my channel now is being abandoned just like that.

and with that much of subscribers you can easily gain back momentum by posting your own content in the near future. Maybe some freetime passion?

number of viewers is more relevant than number of subscribers if we talk about revenue.

Revenue mostly based on where your audience from. Viewers from developed countries brings more money per viewers than developing countries.

Since my videos are in English, so most viewers are from US followed by India, UK, few populous countries and then EU countries.
On average, I get 1.5k USD per month. But the number fluctuate like crazy. Usually I gain the most during Christmas and new year period.

from what i heard, other than origin of your viewers; demographics, your video genre, as well as how big your channel also play a role how much you'll gain per view.

If you notice, ads like netflix, pepsi, or movie trailers only appear on big youtuber videos but rarely appear on small ones.

For you as long as you use your own content 100% (for music for a peace of mind just use Youtube own free music), you should be safe from getting demonetized. Keep it up. happy youtubing!

It was nothing, really. I started at 2008.



2008-2016: 600 subs
- post for fun, tidak apa mode (dont even bothered to check status,reply to YT comments)
- average about 5 videos a year only. poor quality somemore (digicam video)
- despite poor quality video, I noticed my OPTIMUS PRIME video get the most views . Everybody love Optimus Prime!


2017-2018: +600 subs
- bought new phone, Post more high quality vids
- show more videos of LEGO creations built from single lego set , to inspire other people to easily build .
- Rebrickable.com is where I promote my LEGO creation/alternate design for other people to follow building instructions. I link my vids inside:

- post even more videos. One of them (below) suddenly got very huge impressions out of nowhere , few weeks after I publish them. My LEGO TF Titanic enjoyed average 8000 views DAILY for almost 3 weeks . I got my 1k subscribers from there.




2020

COPPA kicks in, forced to set my vids to "Children friendly" . Everything slowed down now , daily views and all . Average 2 subs daily only.

Thanks bro for the clear details, now we have understanding that certain video impact getting great views and subscribers. COPPA mode if change to not for kids would it be help for your case?

my revenue drop 90% (and I only started to earn $$ 2 months ago!) after COPPA on 7th Jan 2020. Now I'm earning USD0.05 sen daily on average.

yes if set as "not for kids" , maybe can return to previous earnings rate. But if YT found out I mislead the viewers like this, account might be banned .

For Youtubers who affected by demonetization last year, you guys might want to reapply monetization. I managed to remonetize my channel this morning after it went demonetized in Jan 2019 (see post #23).

All I did was set my entire video gallery to "not made for kids" (for my case) and then reapply.

Just wondering, how does youtube pay your video...

Is it a one-time payment per content (e.g you make content on Jan then youtube pay only on Jan for that video)

or

Will they paid every month for every single video you have based on your current view on a single video (e.g you view on Jan is 1K then youtube paid 1K viewing then next month you get extra 500 view then youtube paid 500 view) ?

Hi all... Was browsing around and stumbled upon this here thread. Glad to see it exists. Couple months ago, I joined YouTube as a creator and trying to work my way up organically. Basically I got fed up watching half-baked reviews that left me asking more unanswered questions than I went in. Thus decided to test and review devices from the perspective of a real world user, offering deeper insights to help people decide if that device is really worth it, before you shell out your hard earned cash. Since I've got some tiny IT skills as well, I make tutorial videos showing how to fix or setup stuff. It's all been going reasonably well. Except that for some reason YouTube recently started age-restricting some of my videos. Here's the thing, I NEVER use profanities in any of my videos, my content are 100% original, I also make it clear what the videos are and include disclaimers for some. I don't do click-baits or even show myself in my videos much less nudity. So it boggle my mind why there are being restricted. Hundreds of thousands of way more violent, gory, profanity-filled, etc videos are up on YouTube and not age-restricted. None of my videos are targeted at kids and I make sure to tick that box specifying that during the upload. I need help on this guys.. What am I doing wrong as it is pretty demotivating to pump in hours and hours of sleepless nights only to face such outcomes.

Let's take this video as an example.



Excuse the high noob-ness, just began then and still improving with each upload. I have watched it a few times and can't seem to spot where I was wrong. This is not a ploy to simply get views.. I genuinely want to solve this issue. It is fine now as I'm not yet monetized. But eventually when I am.. I would prefer to have my work clean and left up for all to enjoy. I appealed the restriction last night and woke up to an Appeal Rejected email. I'm bummed..

I too did not know that YouTube has started applying age-restrictions to way more videos according to numerous news reports a few months ago (e.g. YouTube is about to age-restrict way more videos)

It is nothing personal because "the company is preparing for there to be some mistakes in labeling, as is the case with any rollout of AI moderation tech [in automatically flagging videos YouTube deems not age-appropriate]. ", although I do not think you can do anything after appeal had been rejected.

Yeah...unfortunately, I don't think I can do anything about the rejected appeal. The AI is just being overzealous. I just uploaded another tutorial and while in draft mode, (i only uploaded the video, custom thumbnail, and title)... Their system has already age-restricted my video..



I mean, this is really insane and demoralizing enough that I'm not going to hit the publish button tonight.. Just going to sleep instead. Hopefully, the AI rights itself in a day or 2. Scared to submit an appeal again only to get rejected without reasons. I just spent half the day crafting and editing this video only for it to be "pulled" even before it's out in public? Given my earlier experience, I was quite careful with my wordings this time. I feel like just quitting and deleting the channel altogether. Perhaps find an alternative platform, a more welcoming platform for my videos. Any other decent options?
