which i think is correct given all the comments posted in this and other threads so far.

the only unconfirmed info is the bit rate used - some have said:

.. old STB lan4 uses 8mbps
.. new black STB uses 4mbps
.. old playtv apk uses 2mbps
.. new playtv (on ATV, it is labeled "unifi tv") uses... ?mbps?

given above, it may be that unifi tv and unifi playtv may be merging, consolidating.

i.e. whether on STB or app, whether black box or yr own box, whether smart ATV or PC, it will be just one APP... maybe 4mbps.

and this app will be called UNIFI TV, "playtv" to be forgotten.

old silver non-android boxes be phased out; white android boxes can still be used but will be on new APP, no need lan4.

Actually can't just compare average bitrate directly with other streaming services like this. This is because Unifi TV uses on-the-fly encoding with a constant bitrate. Other streaming services like YouTube are on-demand video services. They can take time to do 2-pass variable bitrate encoding with a high quality encoder. So those services can maintain OK quality with average 4Mbps+ due to the higher quality encoding and because the variable bitrate can actually peak at 6Mbps+ for certain high-motion parts and drop lower than 2Mbps for simple parts.

Because the new STB is streaming the same content as the App webstream, while the old one is a direct feed using it's own dedicated VLAN.

From what I tested, the old STB is 50FPS, at least 10Mbps quality at 720p, while the web stream is 25FPS, 4 or 5 Mbps at 1080p.

Also due to the STB feed being direct, it's at least a few minutes faster than the web stream that has to be re-encoded first
