QUOTE(servo @ Jan 17 2020, 11:23 AM) i agree in protecting our malaysian waters.. bombing them is fine as a deterrant but what happens when they bomb back? you think malaysian navy can battle against china navy or viet navy? No we cant. No 1 this will trigger confrontation which our country cant afford. 2nd, their coast guard ships are bigger that our navy patrol boats. Go figure it out.

QUOTE(TOMEI-R @ Jan 17 2020, 11:23 AM) But but but we need their monies. Why use kommies monies if we can ask for democracy monies? We can ask for investment from murika in return with right to setup base at our shores or sea so they can counter tongsan properly.

You can't do anything unless Indonesia themselves are serious in combating this problem. Those who say boycott palm oil and this problem will go away are just plain naive. If palm oil is no longer lucrative, they will just change to other crops but slash and burn practice will still continue.

You can severely punish local companies who practice slash and burn in Indonesia. Such as investigating KLK and check if they practice unsustainable palm oil plantation in Indonesia. QUOTE(LegendLee @ Jan 17 2020, 11:43 AM) You can severely punish local companies who practice slash and burn in Indonesia. Out of the 29 companies that was caught and taken action in Indonesia, only 4 were Malaysian subsidiaries and 1 Singaporean companies. Malaysia can punish those 4 companies but if Indonesia is not serious against their own companies, nothing will change. The bigger culprit of haze are the small scale farmers instead of large companies. Studies have shown that 59% of fire originate from outside timber and oil-palm lands and they contribute to 62% of the overall smoke from Sumatra. In Kalimantan the figures are even higher. Fires outside timber and oil-palm lands generated 73% of all emissions and 76% of smoke. The slash and burn practise is their tradition. Even though there are laws, Indonesia is not serious in enforcing them especially against small scale farmers who are the poorest.

The problem is slash & burn practice by a lot of farmers in Indonesia and a lot of them are not the big companies. If palm oil is gone, there will always be other crops and the problem will continue if they do not stop the practice.

Besides, Indonesia has been known to blame foreign companies for causing the haze. Yes, we know that the contribution of Malaysian companies is minor, but if we show to them how tough we are against this, they’ve one less excuse to use.
