Hi all,

The case is like this and we don't know what to do.

My aunt used to be very outgoing, talkative, active person. Her age is 65. Then suddenly  sometime end of last year, she start become very negative. Before that happen, her sister (which she is not very close to) passed away and her sister in law said some hurtful words to her. Im not sure if these events are related but somehow she kind of blame it on the events. We don't think the eventis so much impact to change her or is it just an excuse or reason for herself to put something to blame on.

Since then, my uncle said she will start crying every morning and she is kind of no mood to do anything at all, like lifeless.

Is this sign of mental depression or something else? Cos we couldn't figure out how this could happen. The events doesn't seem impactful to cos such a drastic change.

The passing away for her sister and the hurtful words could have caused some kind of depressive elements to her mood which can subsequently appear as depression; with her age, she would be suffering from Old Age Depression which is different to younger population in its presentation and management. She will need Old Age Psychiatrist to diagnose. It would be intersting to know if she is now aware of her own mortality with the passing of the sister.

not really sure.. I think everyone once pass certain age will think about death

yes that is true
if she starts to lose weight due to not eating, adn start to become unkempt due to lack of self-care, you can ask for your GP to refer to a psychiatrist. hope she copes well.. and you too. good luck

physical illness let us say, abdo pain, can bear heavily on our minds, giving rise to psychological reactions, as well as psychiatric ones. yes, people with cancers, which are physical afflictions, can get depressed or anxious over it.
you mentioned covid.. covid caused a wholotta people anxious, so, that is a natural reaction
