The Kelantan government has purchased a new Mercedes-Benz to be used as Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob's official car.
The Mercedes S450 L AMG, with ''DV 1'' registration number plate, was allegedly priced above RM600,000.
This vehicle is a 3-litre vehicle with a V6 engine. The "S" stood for Sonderklasse or "special class" in German.
In contrast, the prime minister's official car is a 2.4L Proton Perdana, which retails at RM127,000.
The extravagant purchase went viral today and was also taken to task by state Pakatan Harapan chairperson Husam Musa.
In an interview with Malaysiakini, Husam said the PAS-led state government should explain the rationale behind the purchase.
"We want to know the source of funds that was used to buy the new Mercedes for the menteri besar," he said.
"Was it paid using petroleum royalty?"
Meanwhile, a source from the state government confirmed that the car was the menteri besar's new ride.
"Yes, it is true, we bought it last year," said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The previous state car for the menteri besar was also a Mercedes-Benz.
