My condo is only 8 year-old and it's already has leaking here and there, big cracks on walls.
I can't imagine after 20 years.
Agreed, when now our river sand had been sold to Singapore and China, cannot make good concrete already.
Even new house crack everywhere.
In Japan, they would just buy land or demolish the old house (which is easy given their method of construction) and build new steel frame house.
You see Japanese drama companies like Sekisui and Daiwa house sponsor, easier to arrange for insurance policy and finances.
https://www.sekisuihouse.com/index.htmlhttps://www.daiwahouse.co.jp/jutaku/index.htmlUsually Japanese just rent at danchi type of apartment or mansion type of apartment depending on their income, once have money or wanted to form family only buy landed house.
Apartments are bought for rent collection after a while they are demolished and make way for new development ie like Marunouchi now.
Apartment or house in rural place or further from station where nobody wants just left there to rot.
