Donnie Yen can definitely fight an average fighter. Pro fighter maybe not.

That's not the issue.

The problem with this type of shitshow is it's grounded to reality, and it wants to be taken seriously.


Usually they employ some type of heavy drama (sick / preggo wife, young kids, elderly, poor citizen etc)
some sort of conflict (triads, foreign nation army / war brewing etc)
which would lead to dire consequences should our Hero fails (everyone will be killed yada yada must not lose to bad guy)

I've said this before and went apeshit ranting it here, and I'll do it again.

Ip Man series is awful, why?
Because while it's going for realism and drama, it's also filled with so much unrealistic animay bullshit.
It wants to be taken seriously but at the same time the characters are doing impossible stunts nonchalantly.

It's like watching Pierce Brosnan's Bond series, they're so fucking awful.
You could tie up one of his arm and blindfold one of his eyes, and he'd still pull off 2kool4skool animay bullshit, nonchalantly.

It's like watching a generic shonen animay weebtrash. Filled with cringey, self-indulgent moments.

U baca Hajime no ippo on Takamura VS Hawk punya match, Kadogawa got explain why Takamura struggle on early match with hawk. Asian tak biasa tahan this kind of punch.

Even Donnie Yen also admit he also cannot win against the MMA fighter for the ip man2 also

Since it's a Donnie Yen topic, I'll mention this again.

His best modern film (movies made in recent years, NOT set in recent era) is Wuxia / Dragon (2011).

S.P.L and Flashpoint are awful, why? Again, self-indulgent animay bullshit.
The fighting scenes in those two movies were choreographed just for the sake of looking cool. It's sef-aware and pretentious.



Wuxia / Dragon on the other hand is a masterpiece.
Great cinematography, good choreography, good storytelling, good acting, good setting etc. It's a damn good movie.

It's a wuxia film, so it's a fantasy film, so you kinda divert your expectations for realism a bit, bikos there's going to be some wirefu and flashy kungfu showcase in it, right?
So you're expecting bullshitry from it...
But the end result is actually glorious.

It's very drama-heavy, conflict is severe, consequences are harsh.
Acting is great, you actually feel for the family.

Donnie Yen's acting here is superb too.
He's not sporting his usual egotestical cool hero look, or his nonchalant sifu face in Ip Man.

You could see the guilt, conviction in his character in WuXia, you could see the fear in his eyes when he faces his father, even when he's furious and retaliated you could still see vulnerability in him.

WuXia is supposed to be a wirefu fantasy film, yet it's more grounded to reality and has more weight and impact than fucking Ip Man.

Ip Man series sucks ass. Movie bodo.
