 Its not PCI-E problem..i think is DRAM:FSB ratio, locking the PCI-E frequency~

hi..i got a question about locking the PCI-E frequency when changing the FSB frequency.
here is my condition:
- my proc is pentium D 2.66, i change the fsb to 150 means OC to 3.0Ghz
-in bios, the setting for PCI-E is set at auto, from wat i heard, it is better to set PCI-E at 100Mhz and PCI at 33.3Mhz if we OC right?..but when i change the fsb to 150 and set the PCI-E to 100 and restart the pc...the bios automatically set both fsb and the PCI-E bac to the original one..wondering why?..

*for ur info, the mobo i using is Gigabyte which can be found on my sig.

the 2nd question is..is there any harm if we just put the PCI-E to auto?..thanx

probably it's just that your cpu cannot cope up with the speed.

I don't have PCI-E yet but for AGP, it is usualy advisable to manually set to 67Mhz.

As such, I guess it is better to put the PCIE at 100Mhz manually.

However, I did come across forumers saying that sometimes the locking frequency is different. For ATI cards, it is 105Mhz and for Nvidia cards, it is 101Mhz. However, these are unconfirmed reports. Kindly google around and see.....

you should manually set it to 100 mhz,

if you are overclocking while setting to auto
the pci bus speed will increase also thus possible to cause damage to your video card

Yup ... Should lock the PCI-E (100Mhz) when u come to overclocking.
It might spoil your graphic card and sata hdd when the frequency is too high. smile.gif

PCI default frequency is 33MHz, AGP is 66MHz, PCI-E is 100MHz. Lock it to those frequencies if possible, as stability is better that way. Besides, increasing the PCI/AGP/PCI-E frequency gives virtually no increase in performance.

Must be a really unlucky Pentium D if it can't overclock. Even with stock cooler most can hit 3.4-3.6GHz, even 4GHz is possible with better (but still affordable) cooling. Motherboard more likely the problem.

Thus, locking the pci-e to 100MHz makes the card more stable larr? i read somewhere that increasing it a bit, like add 1 more MHz can make the card more oc'able.. fact or myth?
