Broke my phone recently, screen crack, it is a cheap phone (less than a thousand in 2017)

Told my self, why not repair it, diy

Start to buying stuff, go multiple of physical shops (no lowyat, not sure if they selling this kind of thing), proceed with copee online shop

Follow youtube tutorial from multiple of videos because screen replacement didnt come with front housing, need to separate old housing and paste new screen

In the middle of de-attach battery, it bend and start to produce weird smell, proceed with buying new battery

Most video takes about 30 - 40 minutes to repair, i take about 3 days, next time 1 day is enough

List of things:

1. screen replacement + toolkits + postage = rm 60
2. extra repair toolkits = rm 30
3. battery = rm25
4. glue = rm 5

Total = rm 120

Before that, i ask this 1 shop, total cost including labor + screen replacement = rm150 (initially rm160-rm180) for 30 - 60 minutes. So for each repair, they cost about rm100 for labor cost

Proceed to ask around, bargain with them if i have the replacement screen how much would it cost, rm45 the best i am able to get. Thats a 100% difference of labor cost

What do u think? For someone who use <1k phone, i find that rm100 is expensive. But if it takes 3 days everytime to repair it, definitely rm100 for 3 days is worth it

but then, its not, the only reason ive use that much of time is to gather spare part

What phone ? do you have all the toolkit to fix it ?
Normally , it would be good experience for phone fixing.

If you don't care of risk then is it a good option.Risk like getting faulty part , or you accidentally un screw or plug the wrong pin.
If 3 days to fix a phone is normal , depends on how detail you check and confirm but how many hours ? actually better count on hours rather than days.

Besides , if you practice more , i think you can fix it within an hour or so.RM100 labor cost depends on your time , salary and hobbies or worth of learning experience to balance it.
I would say , if you feel you can fix it I think most people here will suggest DIY.You can see a lot of user here assemble their pc but not buy whole set.

What phone , tools and video you watch to fix it ?
