Hi guys and gals,

I am interested to buy Apple Ipod Video 30GB. Can anyone please share and advice what are the pro and cons for this model? I am considering between Ipod and Creative..

How's the sound quality, user friendly aspect, etc... Do I need to convert to some special MAC format for my songs? Can Ipod support the normal MP3 and WMA format? Sorry if the questions sound silly...

millions of thanks...

Pros

-It just look so awfully cool and suave to own an iPod
-You get 5 times brownie points with the girls when they see white earphones dangling from your ears

Cons

-Nobody knows its and iPod you're listening too until you take it outta your pocket and they still would have to guess "is it the real thang or some fake mp4 player?"
-Everybody in the right sense of mind would look at you as if you're the biggest idiot in the world to buy something that only looks good, hasn't included any new technology nor created any, if spoilt will sure cost you damn alot too repair, etc..(well the good thing is fashionitas would be petitioning on your side)

all in all.. iPod is a very very very cool gadget.. being seen my fair share of iPod i realised I can do a whole lot more with my phone..Apple Inc's marketing strategy sure have been good..

Now its up to you to depart with your money to be in either side of the fence, being cool or being sensible

Hi Mate...thanks for the comments...

How about the practical aspect of the player? Is it more practical to buy creative or ipod?

Thanks

Pros
* Nice design, great slick gloss finish
* A great way to kill time

Cons
* There are cheaper mp4 players around
* Easily scratch-able
* New iPods might be out soon, so buying now might not be the greatest of ideas.

It's not out yet. Nobody knows when the new iPods will be out.

It's about that price for a 30GB iPod. If you travel, you can get it cheap in Dubai.

I think the cool factor overweights the pricy factor if you have the money to spend.
Like me, I bought the 1gen nano when it first launched. Simply the cools purchases I have ever made.
Probably will get the iPhone when they launch here. drool.gif

So far my iPod's sound output is above average if stock earphone is used.
For a better audio experience I highly recommend Sennheiser headphones. PX100 if can.

The PX100 will cost around 25% of the cost of your iPod biggrin.gif

Don't forget that the iPod itself is part of a larger ecosystem, namely the iPod + iTunes + Macintosh experience. Once you get your iPod get an account on the US iTunes Store (which can be as cheap as RM4) and you'll be able to download free songs & videos every week. There are also iPod games, some of which are damn addictive but I think there aren't so many demos available.

Music & video aren't the only things you can listen to on your iPod. Visit the Podcasts section of the iTunes Store and explore what's available. Learn French or follow a class at some of the top US universities.

Finally you can sync your contacts, notes, phone numbers, pictures/slideshows, song lyrics and other stuff to the iPod. Use the iPod as a USB disk, for karaoke, as storage for your digital camera and lots of other stuff.

Good luck. Use google to get more info on the stuff above.

Hi again Kenix L

look at marketshare, iPod is everywhere, more people have iPod than anything else!!!! this in itsself is an indication of how good it is....

Pros..

-above average sound quality
-ease of use
-features
-good official warranty

Cons

-kinda pricey
-when it gets updates (which is often) the one you buy will seem crap tongue.gif

my advice would be to get one... it's the best you can buy for the price apple charges

http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/video-ipod.ars/ this is really good, and sums everything up nicely (it will give you a second opinion to us forumers)

Hi Tishaban,

Huh...thanks for the pretty informative ideas on the things that can make me addicted to Ipod. I have just bought one, and not familiar on Apple products. This is the first time I am playing with Apple products blush.gif ...seems a bit out of date... blush.gif blush.gif

You mentioned about the RM4 for iTunes store, is it per month fee? It can't be a one time fee right? They supply latest release songs as well?

But most of the songs nowadays we can download easily from the internet right? Can we just drag over the MP3 or WMA format songs directly to the Ipod?

To get an account on the US iTunes Store if you don't have a US credit card, you need to get a gift cert. Easiest and cheapest way of doing this is by getting one song (US$0.99) given to you as a gift. It's a one time thing, once you have an account, you don't have to pay any more money to continue downloading free stuff.

Otherwise, yes, you can just use any old mp3 song. Note however that the iPod does not and probably will not support WMA. You will have to convert them to MP3 or AAC. Also, the standard way of managing songs is through iTunes, not the direct drag and drop method. I thought this was weird at first, but after using iTunes I understand why it's necessary.
