it should be much of a problem, if you know how to manage your time properly...maybe can cut down your mamak session and use that time to practice a little?

i practice an average of one hour per day when i was in college, and now...still the same routine after i graduated and working...it's more to how passionate are you and how you manage your time...(oops...repeating myself again biggrin.gif)

If it's a hobby, just play when you feel like it. No pressure at all. Don't feel like it, throw aside. You won't get good fast, or probably won't get good at all. It's all a matter of priority. What is more important to you?

For example, for me i am a full time student. I use my bass playing to earn some extra cash doing sessions for a few producers i know well. I'm not professional and not very good either, but good enough to lay down a simple groove for simple tracks. So for me it's also as a side income. Besides the fact that it's fun of course. Which means practicing is a must. But lately i've gotten lazy and also not many jobs coming up. It is noticable as my playing becomes sloppier.

So think about what you want to achieve with your guitar playing before you plan your practicing into your schedule.

Maybe you shouldn't worry too much. I am more confident of my studies AFTER I start playing music.

teaching guitar / working part time probably will..time management and stuffs..

i remember , last time there's this straight A STPM student got interviewed by one of the chinese newspaper

he said he loves playing guitar , what he did was ..he compose songs ..
put everything he needs to memorized into lyrics ..and just sing and play every day

oh.and btw...i think its only a matter of time you're gonna realized ..CGPA doesn't mean anything in working life tongue.gif

Gaps has a good point... if you're CGPA slacks a bit, it doesn't really matter much later on.

If you can maintain you're current CGPA while still playing PC games, maybe you should consider cutting down on your gaming to learn guitar.

All in all, if you're just going to pick up guitar as a hobby and learn how to strum chords and play a few simple tunes, it shouldn't affect your studies that much.

No offense, but judging from the title "hOW TO LEARN GUITAR?, AND TO BE Success In academic? (Q&A)"... maybe you should concentrate on your studies... tongue.gif

you can, as there are a lot of instructional books, videos for you to learn from.

picking and strumming can be learned through videos, and observing how other people play

and of course, you need passion and patience. biggrin.gif

Actually,i got a friend who i think is really good at guitar than me but his marks were among the top scorer here. His guitar time was divided only in the evening and sometime during weekends. As for a person who is really hasty and want to learn alexi laiho solo for only two years experience, try practicing during semester breaks, just like me.But my marks are average.

wow... a thread of almost 1 year old got revived?
the truth is.playing guitar wont really affect your studies, and it shouldn't be.
especially for those who are taking up guitar as a hobby...it is like watching movie series everyday, and yet, still have time to study.

Make the guitaring time As the PLAying time!! it'll be damn fun, just like as ure playing ur video games..XD

as for me, YEs we have to maintain our result.. and keep it high if could.. coz i dun wan my parents ban me from playing it, they ,might say.. 'U so busy at coll.. got assignments, still got time to do this do that bla bla...=.=..swt

The thing is, the truth - It DoeSNT effect my result.. it is NOT NOT NOT music tat effect my result..>.< The competition was finish Before the study week.. my result was down a bit at the 1st sem.. and it was on the 2nd sem that the competition was held...Just bcoz the skool are damn late anouncing results...=.=

anyhow to pass my own requirement, i want myself to have a good result too, music is my passion, hobby, and the time for relaxing.. im not giving up both,
Believe in yourself , make it as your goal, And dont just sit there and goyang kaki..=.=... Go reach your goal..

its actually not easy to balance things the first time. It's actually very hardto balance things the first time. Only some people can do that. So you have to choose either focus on your guitar for the next 6 months, or focus on your academics. Easiest thing is if you are rich, go take a guitar class for 2 hours every saturday. Other days u study and focus on academic course work. No need to practice guitar at home, tell your guitar teacher that. That's the easiest way. if learn & practice by yourself, thats gonna take a lot of time and a long time. If no money, find a friend who willing to teach u 2 hours every sat.
