ask taiko sini, i placed a deposit with specialized store for the allez elite, i have my reasons going aluminium laa

i'm short at 163cm, bike fit based on allez sizing is 52 which is crazy, but a 49 should be nice.

With the RETUL, the shop strongly advise me get the recommended size of 44 from the RETUL result of 44/49.

I was like...aaa...their reasoning is as usual, you can sikit size up a smaller frame with stems, higher this that, but you cannot reduce something too much on a bigger frame. AND, they cakap with my saddle height and the 49 bike size, it would not look COOL, will look more like P RAMLEE basikal with seat post very low.

What say taiko here?

maybe they are trying to push you to get the size 49 because that's what they have in the shop right now. insist on the size recommended by the bike fitter cool2.gif
*
They are not pushing for any size, since they have size 44 and size 49 incoming and i can choose either one. they are recommending me the 44, but strongly advise against me if i want to get 49. So that factor not inside la.

Few things to consider

If you use a 44 depending on your lower limbs, will it adversely affect the setback of your saddle position? If the shop is confident in saying no, then you should be fine

The bolded part is a little misleading

Who is the one who performed the RETUL fit?
*
Since the shop is Specialized Miri (Elite Store, S-Works, Roval), i dont want to travel there, so they asked for few unique dimension; illiac crest to kneecap, kneepcap to ankle bone. The rest are standard height, weight, range/time/frequency cycling. With those measurement, that would enable the setback calculation kot.

QUOTE(radmaszeal @ Nov 16 2020, 11:16 AM)
buy size 44, easier to resell to people buying bikes for their wives  icon_idea.gif  icon_idea.gif

on a more serius note, based on retul fit you should have your bb to saddle length, check how far out the seatpost is extended out. I'm 161cm, can use bmc size 48 but the BMC TMR aero bike would look ugly cos the seatpost damn short, saddle very close to top tube. cos aesthetics matter abit to me, some wont mind hahaha

*
itu la, sell tot he gegirl, so i have a gegirl bike, dun care laaa (sbb on paper, i buy the bike to give to my wife while me on my Tern Verge....but she rides 3km in a week saja, hehe)

The aesthetics reason was highlighted by the shop, he cakap nanti basikal nampak mcm basikal zaman P RAMLEE, seat post like 2-4" saja up.

I am 158 cm and ride size 49 spez roubaix. Sizing wise is ok for me, seat is at lowest point but doesn't look so bad. Main issue is the seatpost comes 20mm offset standard. Reach is a bit far, so I bought a new 0 offset seatpost, pending arrival.

This is my size 48 diverge.

I have the same dilemma either to go for size 44 or 49. Size 44 was super hard to find and based on spez retul website, recommended size was 49. Bought my diverge from Specialized Miri and Roubaix from Specialized Brunei without any fitting done since can't travel there๐Ÿ˜…
*
You also in KCH ka? BTW website retul will check height sahaja..i letak 120cm pun dia bagi size 49, never a 44 or cakap 20" kid bike sweat.gif

Your bike doesnt look bad ler? IMHO that is still okay, compared to the picture they sent me of a TARMAC.

The shop cakap itu machiem, like the saddle n nampak PANJANG walaupun on paper its only ~30mm difference in seat tube length, and another ~9mm in reach between 44 and 49. Stand over height difference ~21mm and stack 19mm, thats about it.

Sorry la, noobie, but thats why they told me ambik kecik since can extend pakai longer stem etc etc.

I am in Miri bro. Retul website will check for 3 measurements, height, height until knee and height until ankle. Use the Euro retul website. I input my wife height 149cm and the website actually gave size 44 but for Tarmac model. Tomorrow coming, bought from Brunei Specialized also ๐Ÿ˜…

Why you don't consider Giant in Kuching? I been trying to get a bike for myself and wife from there last few months but they macam don't want to layan communication thru messenger. Call shop nobody answer.
*
Giant sini okay, but messenger ka whatsapp susah he very slow to reply. Giant has too much nifty gifty graphic on it, and the Contender (aluminium) is not very interesting IMHO, tanya pricing pun belum bagi, what he can tell me, next year baru ada stock. And kalau cari review or comparison, its hard to get Giant review, pricing xde on the website, specs are never clear especially weight.

And of course I do know Giant make other ppl punya bike. But kalau price is right, stock ada, I might just take Giant.

And another reason for noobie me laaaa...a Giant is a Giant, and a Specialized is a Specialized.

QUOTE(Clueless07 @ Nov 16 2020, 03:57 PM)
hows the bike stock over in East Malaysia?
over here at Klang valley mostly out of stock.
new stock also take long to arrive
*
Sama saja, non-existence. Giant kena tunggu next year February. Specialized pun patchy, ada ada, takde takde, but stock direct from SG. The rest aa, that do not have specific boutique, kena put order baru order, 2-3 bulan if lucky. For sure stock akan sampai semenanjung baru sini.

*
For your 149CM wife kan? Cut as in physically cut the seatpost so can masuk dalam is it?

My 44 Allez OTW dalam bas from MYY to KCH today.

Short ppl trouble, 163cm on a size 44 Allez Elite. The saddle kena up sikit lagi.

But overall la, frame really small, bottle nk masuk pun susah. Seatpost stock offset 12.5, saddle habis belakang still not optimum yet, kena pasang 25 offset. Stem stock 70mm too short, kena panjang sikit.

However so...no body pain after 25km, so noobie hantam saja.. Efficiency x tahu...

Plus side, kalau my scale betul, its only 8.3kg. I plan tukar tubeless, can cut 200-300gram. Stock tyre wire bead at ~360gm for one tyre sahaja.

Bro, may I ask on how you determine which seatpost setback (offset) is appropriate to use?
Because bicycles comes in different setback from 0 to 15 to 25.

Look at Gorka Izagirre's seatpost during LTdF 2019.  blink.gif  shocking.gif  laugh.gif

Mula2 dulu when mula cycling folding, eventually my ass mcm nk ke belakang, nk cari space. Eventually I read about the knee drop to ball of foot thing, so mcm my ass naturally go there. On the allez mmng feel cramped, measured kneecap mmng abit over the ball of the foot/pedal axle. But not that bad laa, boleh pakai lagi.

Sounds like you got a wrong sized frame
*
Haha, I did ask sini, but mostly kena advise get the smaller one sbb can adjust with stem and seat post, the specialized store pun comment the same. I don't really regret it, kinda like my cheap bike.

QUOTE(radmaszeal @ Dec 1 2020, 04:26 PM)
my mtb had the same bottle cage issues. but luckily my 3 roadbikes size 48/xxs still got some clearance, just have to use elite cannibal bottle cage for the seat tube bottle cage. I'm shorter than you lol.
*
I ride short ride, my ~500ml elite and abloc bottle csn fit well.

You guys no comment on tubeless ka? Sounds magical Imho, but why ppl x pakai? No puncture, auto seal. So nice.

Using tubeless on both my bikes. If u have no skill in changing tyres, dun bother. It will b a hell and possible gv up cycling if it reaches ur boiling point...
Puncture on side wall = getting new pairs of tyre... $$$
Cleaning (3-6 months once) going to be 1hr per tyre... Cos need to scrub off the sealen...

If u r good with above... Tubeless is the best thing ever
About bike size... Yes 1 size below ur size
*
First honest actual user comment. Kena fikir twice xd, haha!

Sidewall xde puncture repair kit aa, kena tukar terus? Skill ada la, motorcycle tyre, tp those rims besar and keras...bicycle rim kang bengkok (kalau kabon dah crach).

Thank you for another confirmation on bike sizing, makes my heart lega bit more.

unfortunately, if the sidewall lubang is big enuf, better to change new tires... or convert back to tube (Mahal tyre tubeless tu)
same thing applies to any big holes in the middle (duno wat is it called, saja tau sidewall)

my fren sad case also, Day1 use gp5000 TL, that night puncture sidewall.... cannot reuse, emo he change back to tube

i have standard tube tyre changing skill also can cry doing tubeless...
*
ok ok, i learn my lesson, haha

Tp good tyres pun sama harga tubeless, but at least tukar rm20 tube ony, or patch.

Got carried away after ppl show tubless run over nais screws etc etc, cabut like nothing happen with sealant squirting out.

Yes tuan, kalau salah tolong ketuk kepala.

Even worse kan, my seat not level, sbb tarik belakang sgt, ada slight upwards tilt on the nose. Belum sakit lagi, pakai dulu.

QUOTE(benbeaninc @ Dec 2 2020, 10:32 AM)
u send pic like this without us showing us how u position when u r on ur bike is abit pointless actually.

ur body pain can due to many reasons
1) bike size too big
2) stem too long/short
3) handlebar too wide/narrow
4) saddle too high/low or front/back
5) ur reach is too far
6) YOU ARE NOT CYCLING ENOUGH !!!
can still remember my first time i ride above 40km already crying... the same saddle after 1 year can rider 600km
*
Tahu boss, tp badan x sakit lagi most prolly due to factor no 6. Im not complaining (yettt) so until then will ask more.

So nubis kubis, x sakit bantai dulu, then from there baru ask again. Nanti we revisit this question in 3 months time.

But i know (2) (3) and (4) is valid, but no effect, so maybe it works.

BTW, im a loner cyclist, so no peer pressure or peer comments from 1000 years of combined cycling experience to say otherwise. Eh pasal ko x beli kabon, eh, change wheelset ENVE laaa, eh, pakai ceramic bro, ei, your bike no value, buy better s-works, ada kelass, eh pakai kask helmet la...you guys know la

so, back to new question, numb nether region, crotch or, numb dick/cock.

I'm not tech guy like you peeps pakai cycling shorts, beep whatever. Bangun pagi 530, sembahyang sekejap, cuci muka, put on hrm, put on blocktech jacket (with hood inside), put on giro helmet, pakai kasut, naik basikal.

Problem is, after habis ride 1 hour, mmng numb dick, last sometimes unti the next day, maybe the saddle, maybe the position. Could it be my jogger trousers i use to go to sleep in (well, standard seluar has seams dekat crotch area).

most likely is position, oso because ur pressure is too much on the saddle hence nerve is pressure, maybe lower down ur seat post and try again?

and a cycling shorts is important, if u feel like ur trousers can put stuff inside pocket, perhaps u can buy those cheapo RM20 padding underwear and wear inside

i have a fren once happen that he feel numb dick for almost a month, after that he traumatise and buy padding underwear
*
QUOTE(andrewhtf @ Dec 14 2020, 10:46 AM)
With padded shorts and adjusted seat height, my usual 1 hour rides no issue, but on my ride back from KS last Friday I also encountered numb dick incident. BUT a quick stop at the petrol station for drinks and toilet break allows the blood to circulate again.

Maybe make it  a point to stop every half hour or 45 mins? Or by distance, every 10-15 km stop a while get off saddle and do some stretching?

So frequent stops is good for you, although it would extend your riding time.
*
I lowered the saddle by 15mm, adjusted spacer for the stem 15mm, adjusted saddle tilt nose down sikitt, now less numb, much much much better than before. But saddle kena shift fowrard by 10mm (which IMHO now sudah macam 25mm terlalu ke hadapan). Pity, no proper bike fitter in Kuching, only bike shop pushing their agenda sahaja.

How you ppl decide your stem length? (remember, i dont have acces to bike fitter), but i read that if you're on the hood, look bawah, should not be able to see the front hub.
I can see my front hub , by ~40mm. Not to mention, if im on the drop, my hand is like straight down, almost like normal ppl on hood. Nk beli stem also so many legth 90 100 110. Angle going for -17 sbb the Allez is seriously not aggresive dry.gif

Forgive my noob-ness, sudah pakai baru tahu.

tq all, baru got time masuk sini, kena lash liao

tq tq genodickybirdJustin.Loong beating the shit out of noobie me, For the mean time, still think its better to pakai dulu whatever yg ada. Nanti i measure the reach and do some trigonometry apa machiem, still belajar.

I ingat ambil the 17 degree, then i shift the spacer back down 15mm. At least got range to play.
