hi guys, i thinking for revamp roadbike that purchased when 2014 after realized the rubber gasket on gear shifter started to chipped and break in pieces. I bought it @ RM1600 that time with tiagra groupset.

Wondering invest with new parts (gear shifter & derailleur something better than tiagra) on aged & cheap alloy frame?
Or instead i should go for full new road bike upgrade instead? Here the picture of the roadbike that i using now that should ride total up to 10k km.

You're better off buying a complete bike if you can find the right size. If you're not choosy about the brand, complete bikes to be had for quite reasonable price unlike components which are facing global shortage and therefore overpriced.

Also if you're upgrading to 11 speed, you might need new wheels and chain rings too.
*

I still ok with existing 2x10 speed with existing frame.
Just thinking to replace with a new group set (both side shifter, rear and front derailleur) whether will cheaper in a package

Getting shifters, FD & RD isn't going to be any cheaper because its not a complete groupset and you'll have to find someone willing to sell you just those parts.

But if you do upgrade from 4600 to 4700 series shifters, then you'll also need to upgrade to 4700 RD. something about cable pull incompatibility with all previous shimano 10 speed systems.
*

what the approximately cost of the complete set of left right shifter along with front rear derailleur?
seeking some inputs to justification whether go for complete new bike or upgrade with groupset.

anyway, any recommended shop who much focus on roadbike?
around subang, PJ and shah alam if can.

no expecting for branded or lightweight for racing purposes
much focus on groupset for the ease of controls at least with tiagra or 105.

as seem the usj and roda much focus on branding instead of spec.

yesterday did first night ride this year, joined the ladies monday recovery ride putrajaya. nice pace, 50+km averaged 30km/h without too much suffering. first time joining, got some relative newbies not riding too smoothly in 2 file train, and those that are chasing dunno what cannot stay in line, overtake people but only ladies are supposed to be at the front, 3rd or 10th row also not much difference if the wheel in front of you doesnt keep on surging or rides dangerously.

Group rides are always dangerous bro.
*

yes, big group riding are danger as as limited front view (got pothole then langgar jeh)
hence sometimes cant anticipate the surrounding cyclist movement (sudden swerve and brake)
those want to save power, no choices then have to follow at the back.

unless highly confident on road condition and with other cyclist's skills.
Or else, ride with smaller group or better keep a distance or solo ride much better.

once the front riders fell down, everyone at the back definitely kena also.

Also this is a road cycling topic, cyclists are lazy bums who do not want to work alone and want to ride far and quick tongue.gif
*

I prefer much solo ride for true workout for stamina and endurance
Torture the muscles to max if can.

most of group ride usually eat-ride-rest during the trip, longer time required for whole trip, ending up more sun burn...

*

at the moment I can reach 48-50km @ average 30+km/h without resting.

i got a fren, he ride in fast group can up to 30-31km/h
But while he ride in solo or with other buddies. the speed manage maintain 25-26km/h

always ride in group and fast doesn't make your stronger as always leeching at the back of strong cyclist. The only ways to make you stronger, solo always the to push with all the stamina that you have, hence your brain must be strong too as it always physco you to stop as soon as possible.

Not cycle alone ka

Btw just letting you know, some of the lurkers here, quietly, ride a lot in groups and are strong as hell, some are state riders.

I know those arenโ€™t the same people you are talking about but a little bit of humility goes a long way. Riding alone averaging 30kph has nothing to shout about. For some of them, it is laughable that you guys are bragging about that type of average speed in a public forum.

A lot of us here ride alone too but we donโ€™t dismiss others for what others are doing
*
I am OK to ride few persons like 2-3 per group. At least take the true load for about 30-50% for whole trip? That where I train stamina for more pressure and reach the load at higher speed for longer period.

At least few person in group, much safer in case accident happened or bicycle repair. Ride along quite danger for long route unless you are very familiar with the places or share your live coor to your family members in case emergency. For the first 7 years I ride alone 95% of the time but limited short trip only.

I much worry u overloaded half ways, assumed your longest ride never 100km? sweat.gif
I got a buddy new in road bike, he overstressed when 70-120km flat road but he improved from day 1.

Nobody invite me for longer ride so I just stick to my own route je
*

better u try 60 70 80 90 100km distance gradually before u jump straight from 40km direct to 100km. sweat.gif

so far I solo with 48km @ 30km/h without resting and no water drinking for whole route.
Just stop for 2min due to traffic light. That how I train myself week to week.

my fren with foldie previously for 100km+ before change to rb. he should have the basic stamina as i thought.
but he exhausted badly between start from 80km till the end of 120km when riding rb. so no joke oh if 100km+ distance sweat.gif

Ride alone hard to improve at times.
*

I even did solo along Kesas + Rimbayu what.
but no big deal must group ride. sweat.gif
https://www.strava.com/activities/6217361528

so safety wise, yes better to have 2-3 person in group.

๐Ÿ‘Solo 100km! Bravo ๐Ÿ‘
Last year I rode solo around 60-70km for a few months before MCO 2.0 kicked in. That's was the max I done solo.
Schwalbe one tyre served me well without problem during the long trips.
*

better u try 80-100km on flat road first before climb uphill.
even i did 100km solo at flat road earlier, nearly cramp as my fingers have not energy to push shifter even.

100km with uphill, not a joke unless keep ride non stop 3 months.
I got another guy, nearly ride everyday, at least 30km per day. Now he manage to hit 160km distance but he exhaust badly.

180-38 = 142... ur avg hr is 156bpm in your strava with a maximum HR of 199bpm..
be careful not to overstrain ur heart bro...
dangerous....
riding everyday does not mean that it can make a person stronger, may have reverse effect if not well recovered.

peres short short 40km with 10km hill climb, not so bad that need to be able to ride 80-100km as qualification

just my 2cent
*

my latest ride at KLIA, maximum average get 170-180bpm around KLIA road. still can ride back in ease but my fren exhausted and dragged average speed.
The most i ride uphill with u till perez checkpoint, after that i continue my ride to titi and back to perez to climb again.

but i always start my ride at 500/530am if going for 100km distance. no much people can follow my timing.

from a healthy fitness stand point, going to z3-z4 for long duration can create strain to the heart...

5-530am, haha tat is too early for me... tat is about the time i usually wake up for a ride.
usually i start at 7am from NamWah.

wow ... does that mean u will b back to bt14 before 12pm?
*

7am is big no no for me as started to crowd with more traffic around.
yes, i always end my ride when the sun reached on top my head.

Used to ride when night time for past 7 years even not used the brightest headlamp. Chill ride when beginning to save some energy for return trip.

Weekday is my working days, I only can ride when weekend for long trip.

headlamp is compulsory anyhow for safety.
Even motorcycle also used to turn on headlamp for the past15-20 years?
I even will carry a spare torch light + mini power bank along for emergency purpose for this Saturday.

If expecting for longer ride, you should expecting to carry more stuffs along with you. This quite logic.
If not ready to carry more stuffs, then means no ready for long ride. Unless you got support car follow behind you then different story.

look on my strava picture, my bag size even much bigger than saddle.
some others cyclist may much bigger than me even.
