I use ciplak oakley sutros before.....and wife bought original sutro with road lens. I can tell you ...the differ nice is freaking huge. The road lense make the road look super clear in day. Like better contrast and you can see every detail clearer. The difference in rain is even more significant especially puddled water

But yeah...600 ringgit vs 100 ringgit. Feel it's worth it considering sometime I feel dizzy with the ciplaks....must be not even or got some lens provlem
*
none of the cheap imitation ones lasted me more than 3 months before something breaks. which can get expensive for me very fast due to the need to redo the my prescription lenses each time.

And oh yeah, during night time cycling, it makes a bigger difference too. the lack of multi coating on the cheap lenses really causes light to diffraction a lot off the lenses, ie: street lamps, car headlights, etc. and that can be a huge distraction to your vision.

Main thing to remember is that the cheap lenses tends to just reduce visible light for you during day time. the good lenses are not supposed to do that, rather they let in visible light so you can still see clearly, but cuts down on the glare that may otherwise effect your vision

I assume in this woman's case, she already admitted she had not exercised for a long time. Then suddenly joined this spinning class and overexerted herself.  rclxub.gif
Furthermore, she also advised everyone to always hydrate after exercising and when she was in the hospital, she was administered intravenous hydration therapy and was encouraged to drink a lot of water during the stay. Meaning she didn't take in enough fluids too.  cheers.gif
If you're doing your Zwift, you can stop anytime.  cool2.gif

I was really wondering about how she managed to get to that point too. because if one has not exercised for a long time, there's a high chance of bonking long before getting to the point of muscle breaking down like that. And when bonking and pushing on like that, she's very likely to black out the moment she gets off the bike too, which did not happen.

Hi sifus,
Can I know how to test the wheel is stiff or not stiff ?
Is pressing the rim to the brake pads an indicator of stiffness ?
With my current wheelset, I can easily pinch rim to the brake pad with two fingers.

Appreciate your thoughts
*
the only test that works for me personally is to try the wheel on a climb

Hi guys,
just for my experience on my first bike purchase

I've been looking for bike shops in JB area for suitable bike and a quite well known China brand came under my radar- Camp Oxygen Pro
it came with full Shimano 105, carbon frame and forks and is price at RM3900, which is well-suited to my budget
I visited the shop and bought the bike without much hesitation (Carbon frame!!)
Shop owner is kind enough to compliment me with 2 bottles along with cages, front light, rear light, pedals, and a bike stand along with the purchase
I happily brought the bike back and is eager to have my first ride that evening

However, the feeling of unsatisfactory quickly came to me as I found the shifting on high gears is not crisp and gear tripping happens randomly in the middle gears
I'm still able to bear with it in the beginning as i've done my homework is able to adjust the cable tension on the RD.
after much time, i'm only able to improve it by a minor bit and can only bear with it as i planned with my friend for a long ride the next day

The trip is a 40km route with a short break in the middle
everything is smooth on the 1st half of the trip but the return trip is irritating
strange "Squeaking" sound appears on my crank whenever force is exerted on
Right after the trip, i brought my bike to the shop and let them examine the issue

Long story short, the shop owner changed the RD, rear wheel, Bottom bracket, crank, pedal and is still not able to rectify the issue
thus they decided to give a full refund to me as the bike is still under warranty and i've only purchased it for a few days..
My guess is that the squeaking noise came from the BB/frame fitting area

In the end, i'm back to square one on my journey for my "first" road bike
I then seek for my friend's advice on his road bike- Corratec Dolomiti Elite- German brand, made in Taiwan
https://www.corratec.com/bikes/road/race-al.../elite-bk25130/
the downside of this bike is it only came with alloy frame and is a bit more expensive than my previous purchase but still within my budget

In a nutshell, i bought the bike and is very very happy with my new ride
the whole feel and build is totally on another level

just me sharing my experience on road bike purchase and no offence to the brand mentioned above
*
Nothing wrong with an alloy frame. I'm still using an almost 9 year old alloy frame myself, although upgraded the rest of the components slowly over the years.

Even a famous Canadian brand's high end model is kind of infamous for the creaking on the BB area, and apparently it's to do with the engineering tolerances, on well how the BB fits into the frame itself.

Interesting to watch those breakdown of carbon frame video in youtube with like of peak torque/Hambini/Luschner teknik (dunno how to spell his name) and see those crazy imperfection behind nice paint

Just have to love Hambini, and the way he talks about tolerances, and he's very entertaining too

Does current DA (both mech and di2) easy to get hold in view of the current shortage?

I imagine new 12 speed means new hub and standards for sure.
*
yeah, unfortunately shortages is always an issue for the more popular brands like Shimano.

won't know about new hub until more details are released. Campy did manage to use back the same hubs for their 12s though.

Always itching to try Campag (their mid range stuff), but not sure how does it compare to the like of Shimano or Mechanical Sram (their old parts damn hard to find for sure)
Chorus is a one to start with. The precision is better than my DA9000, although DA is definitely smoother. And once you get the tuning done, it almost never runs. Used my Chorus for years too, with very minimal wear on the cassette, but that's also assuming you clean your chain regularly and not have road grime on the chain wear down the chain rings and cassette.

I like it best for the precision and the tuning not running. The main annoyance is most times there's only 172.5 cranks available. 170 can be harder to find.

Oh yes, I am actually aiming at chorus since i dont see the point for Record or Super Record other than looking good in group/cafe stop/cool points with ride mates.

Notice campagnolo only have minimium 170mm crank and never offered 165mm. Since I am running 165mm on my current bike (not to say i cannot run 170mm but it is preferably on 165mm crank)
*
Yeah, the Chorus is a very decent groupset that will last for a long time. There's no noticeable difference in smoothness or precision between Chorus and the higher up ones, with the exception of weight, which is quite minor anyways.

Only reason I upgraded was SR11 having clearance sales. Such sales are the only time I'll be willing to spend money on either R or SR

hi guys, i thinking for revamp roadbike that purchased when 2014 after realized the rubber gasket on gear shifter started to chipped and break in pieces. I bought it @ RM1600 that time with tiagra groupset.

Wondering invest with new parts (gear shifter & derailleur something better than tiagra) on aged & cheap alloy frame?
Or instead i should go for full new road bike upgrade instead? Here the picture of the roadbike that i using now that should ride total up to 10k km.

when you say 'rubber gaskey on gear shifter', can you elaborate further on what exactly this part is? or if possible post a photo?

Necro sekejap

I got my hands on the obsolete, ugly, goose-neck Specialized CG-R seatpost, taken from a barely used 2019 Roubaix (beli DEC 2020) for only RM300

IMHO its cheap la with 25mm setback, exactly what i'm looking for. 260gm as opposed to the stock Allez 296gm alu post.

Waseh dunno its the alu vs carbon thing or what, but ride comfort improved significantly. I tested the same route yesterday, and today (with CG-R), paling gruelling example is the yellow stripe, usually i evade this, sbb it rattles my bones like jackhammer. With the  CG-R, cannot feel it, now the handlebar is jittering from the front wheel.

So no use takde drill, nahhh

I do find that after switching to carbon fibre handle bars, the front of the bike is no longer as rattling when going over such yellow stripes.

I'm still using my very old alloy stem. no idea if a CF stem makes a difference or not, but a handle bar definitely makes a huge difference

yeah, especially if you get something like the 3t aeronova. aero handlebar but flexy, sprinters dont like it cos it flexes too much lol.
*
I'm using the 3T Ergonova, find that it's more comfortable to grip and it don't flex that much too.

Storck handlebars are interesting. I was there when Markus Storck was in KL when the first Storck distributorship was launched, and he was giving a demo on his handlebars. single direction flex. he was putting his full body weight on the handlebars, both up then down, and was also inviting ppl to try it out too. it can flex downwards to help absorb impact, but no flex upwards for when sprinters pull on the handlebars.

Boss, I am wondering too, since cycling kalau far far one, burn quite banyak calorie.

And I still wonder why many cyclist masih boroi, why aaa?

Sbb assume ada exercise so can eat more is it?

Sorry ye, just trying to find the logic.
*
it depends on how much you eat also lor...

ada exercise can probably mean can eat more, but it really depends on if your intake is more than the energy spent or not. and also what it is that you're eating too.

Not only Specialized / S-Works but Pinarello, Colnago, Bianchi, Trek, etc...
There's a shop in Melaka that specialises (non pun intended) in these OEM framesets.  whistling.gif

A friend got conned with an Argon 18 before in Melaka, but managed to get a refund after confronting the owner. not sure if it's the same shop or not.

We usually hear horror stories of bike shops overtightening bolts right? this same shop apparently never tightened bolts enough too.

Shops overtighten or undertighten bolts? Yeah, sometimes some shops don't use torque wrench or unsure what torque values to use when tightening.  sad.gif
*
undertighten. even scarier when the shifters started to move on the handlebars on the first ride too!

Even for helmet i, Original is a must have
as my history of helmet:
Rudy (5 year start to soft) -> Rudy (2 years fall then crack) -> Kabuto (Best helmet, but start to soft after 2 years) -> Kask + crnk (spare helmet)
*
that's interesting. never had a helmet get soft or crack on me before. the plastic part of the straps will start to become brittle and break before that can happen. on both bontrager and rudys for me.

+1 with you on the bolded...

because benbeaninc correctly hit the nail on its head...  whistling.gif
Which is why you can see knockoffs of jerseys, sunglasses, gloves, tights/bibs of many famous brands like Giro, Kasak, POC, Rapha, Castelli, etc... being used as well.  laugh.gif

If you don't mind me asking, when did you buy your bike during the time where Merida and Giant were brands people didn't really considered as top tier?
Was it in the late 1990s / 2000s?
*
I bought a Ruby Project sun glasses before I found out about Rudy Project smile.gif

Long story short, it's not worth it. lasted only 3 months

I went weightweenie. Quite interested in the 1.2kg winspace clincher but alot of quality issue with this brand and technical support is an issue. https://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/vi...61394&start=750

I think better stick with established brand for now.

On a separate note, below 1.3kg wheels now are rarer than last time. I wonder if it's because of they provision for safer construction.
*
below 1.3kg for clincher or tubulars?
