I had a first-gen Myvi, bought 2010. Earlier this year I wanted to fix it up, to make it nice and fun to drive again. All these while I serviced the car at Perodua service centre and still using all genuine parts, so I was looking at other things to improve it, like chassis foaming, noise and heat insulation, etc.
Then one fateful day I was told the aircon will need to be replaced soon because, well, it’s been nine years. I did the math, decided to sell the car, use the money as downpayment for the highest-spec new Myvi. I’m really happy with it and I enjoy driving it very much.
Sure, it might seem cheaper to just fix up the old myvi now. But I don’t want to spend more time, energy, and money trying to keep the old car alive in five years time (because by then it’s gonna be 15 years old car, and how many 15 years old saga/kancil/Kelisa you see on the road today?)
Eventually I’ll need to replace the old car with a more reliable new car. Might as well do it now. I sold the old Myvi for a little less than 20k this year. I don’t think it’s gonna fetch the same price in a few more years.
