Hi guys, anyone knows why my internet connection on PS4 is very unstable? I contacted tm, they came replace the router and modem but still unstable so I contacted them again and another technician came and do speed test on his laptop and the speed is stable. Meanwhile on my PS4 it can goes 400mbps+ then suddenly drop to 80mbps or even worst 60mbps. I’ve been playing MHW and 3/5 times I’m kicked out from the quests because of error. The TM technician said no problem with the internet and might be my PS4. Anyone knows why? Thank you!

Edit : I tried Google DNS, still unstable speed. Tried using Cloudflare DNS, ended up getting DNS error from time to time. Tried Restore Default Settings and Rebuild Database on Safe Mode, unplugging cords for 10 mins turned off the plug and turn on the PS4 again but nope still unstable connection and even dropped until 9mbps today.

Edit : The worst is it dropped until 6mbps... can’t share play with one of my friends and his voice becomes robotic and unclear when it was fine before.

Have you tried using wifi instead?

Have u tried Google dns?

try use wifi with 5GHz connection if ur modem support it. and use google dns too

I’ve not gotten kicked out.
But PSN has been known to give me real shitty speeds.
Like 20-40mbps even when I’ve a far higher connection speeds.
No issues with my other devices, just PSN.

In my case, for some odd reason after 1 year, the PS4 was having problems with Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1). It keeps giving me DNS error. Set it back to Google DNS (8.8.8.8) and all is well.

Yes but sadly my PS4 is old only support 2.4GHz so I prefer LAN cable.

Tried using different DNS even Cloudflare and Google DNS but for Cloudflare, I'm getting DNS error sometimes and speed is not stable on Google DNS too..

I’m using a wired connection as the PS4 is next to my network switch.
Initial connection was really fast. >100mbps.
Then it throttles to <20mbps.

Maybe its only monster hunter server problem cause i used to get connection error every time using wireless and dc 1 out of 5 times when using wired

but it sounds like you're having issue with the connection on MHW.

in relate to your issue, I currently game MHW on the base PS4 via wifi with no issues on connectivity.

Then is it quite normal for PS4 to be like this? Yesterday I checked it even dropped until 6mbps...

Yeah I will try play other online games to check too! Thanks! And I’ve been playing with my friends too suddenly I can’t use share play with one of my friends and his voice is hard to hear using the party chat. It was okay before.

I should try play other games too to check my connection. Lately I’m only playing MHW so I’m not sure about other games. Thanks for letting me know!

For my case Speed will drop for downloading games.
Restarting the connection helps a little.

It’s also not my connection.
I’ve tested the same connection via another console and the speed is much faster.
Also using 5Ghz WiFi does not help.

basic troubleshooting.... already use different LAN cable to PS4? maybe use CAT 6 cable?

So do you think the PS4 might be the problem?

Yeah I was using a CAT 5 Cable before and I thought there is something wrong with the cable so bought a new one but it’s CAT 7 and it’s still very unstable so I bought another cable again (this time CAT 6) but it hasn’t reach me yet.. OTL
I don’t think the cable is the problem but still I bought another one to test out.

Have you tried the connection with your own laptop and see if its unstable?

The TM technician did check the connection with his own laptop and cable and it was very stable. My laptop is macbook 2019 and I can't connect LAN cable to my laptop
