I am trying to install a sliding door at my wet kitchen. I wanted the wood one with nice looking sliding mechanism. But it seems there one available is aluminum which is more utilitarian. Just wonder if anyone knows where to get one closer to the wood one that I prefer?

Its called a barn door.

You can check-out KerjaKayu at Shah Alam.

Disclaimer - I have never tried them hence not aware of their quality. I did the barn door on my own.

Yes barn door. I thought it looks nicer. But probably the alu sliding door is more functional.

True ... easier to clean on aluminium and glass. Plus if doing Chinese cooking, the oil and cooking smell might seep into the wood over time.

The only downside is the aluminium sliding mechanism doesn't look nice - very "office" like.

Lol. Hence the tough decision! I saw some barn door samples but none has mechanism as good looking as the photo I attached though.

I removed it after 1 year and use tbe normal door now. Smell of cooking goes as far to the rooms on 1st floor.

This door that I am building is not separating the wet from dry and living room. That has a normal door.

This is leading to the maid room with bathroom facing the kitchen. Feng shui Master says no good hob facing the toilet. So cheapest solution is to use a sliding door to block it. 😬

Is it possible to reposition the maid"s room toilet door? Personally I find sliding door more 'troublesome' than normal door after 1 year of experience.

Lol. The purpose of having that barn door is the beautiful mechanism on top! 😬 Yes maintenance and cooking smell into the wood is a concern

I got my mechanism from Taobao, delivered to Malaysia. Not cheap but satisfied with final design

Thanks for sharing. The maid toilet door is original orientation. My hob position was determined by previous owner and it is too much to move it around involving dismantling of cabinets and ducts.

Anyway we won't go to maid room much. There is no maid anyway. And that room is just plainly used as store room. As far as toilet our living has another "better" toilet/powder room 😬

Personally, I think the barn door is too big due to the design of your original door frame.

That's nice. 👍🏻. This is along what I am thinking of although mine will be just wood frame with translucent glass as shown in first post above.

Wanted to erect a brick or wooden wall, but settled for this.

Mine must be can't see through according to the Feng Shui "law". So less option with your type of solution and most are ugly 😬

Like you suggested earlier I can move the toilet door but that requires hacking. I am trying to avoid hacking and structural work where possible.

How about using those nice folding type door?

Personally i dont mind without the string curtain but my wife says not nice with such open concept. Putting a permanent divider makes the hall looks smaller.

Actually I think in your case an open concept is better. Having a divider does make the space smaller.

In my case I explored most options. Sliding door is probably ok looking although not the most practical but I think we are ok due to limited traffic through that door.

I have a feeling you are leaning more towards aesthetics than functionality.

This is closer to the design my subcontractor is proposing. My current house is similar 3 panel glass which I walked into twice in ten years! 🤣

This design is clean, efficient and functional. But the barn door appeals to my heart 😬

🤣 I looked at kerjakayu. Their promotion is standard size 1m width. Mine should be around 46" so the price doesn't apply

Also I like the barn door with wood frame with translucent glass. Not a solid wood plank as my house is essentially a glass house! 😊

But the mechanism is different for alu vs wood. There is no point to get wood grain but with less visually impact alu mechanism.

thanks for mentioning the promo.

the promo end date should be 15/12/2019 instead of 15/11/2019 due to typo error. will fix them later.

This stainless steel barn door railing is closer to what u wanted. Can opt for this instead of those normal barn door railing.

we've done barn door wood frame with glass previously
https://www.instagram.com/p/BsSA6y9hd8B/

also aluminium barn door with ACP
https://www.instagram.com/p/B0QVoqdHk1b/

Basically you just need to update us your requirements as we do custom made stuffs based on customer preferences.

As for ur 46" width door size, should be able to do with the promo price.

Thanks
