QUOTE(lhdn @ Nov 25 2019, 10:26 PM) I mean do you guys have no plumbing issue like sumbat sumbat or something? How you guys dispose the waste while in submarine? Yup....it could happen. Which caused by external/foreign object which blocked the seawater inlet. What we do to clear is to blow high pressure thru the piping system to clear it. |

1) Any new weaponry update for MY sub excluding Exocet MM40 Block 2?
2) Got any minisub attached to it? 3) Why the back water turbine fan of the sub is closed/keep covered when it is in dry dock...as i know each sub has its own so called acoustic sound signature (correct me if im wrong) depending on its structure like hull shape, water/torpedoes inlet, fan shape.... 4) Which company run the maintenance? local based firm ie Boustead (Transfer of technology/knowledge) or foreign firm 5) How you detect other enemy's sub? U umpan the enemy first to reveals its location? This post has been edited by JohnKekHow: Nov 25 2019, 11:39 PM |

I used to play silent hunter 1 PC game back in 1996. Since i really sucked at using torpedo to sink enemy warships, i just took my sweet time to sink an imperial navy battleship using a DECK GUN after 30 or more shell shots.
So my question: why there is no more DECK GUN installed on modern submarines? You gotta have it for personal defence or to take a pot shot at small ships right? |

QUOTE(chaosneo @ Nov 26 2019, 11:06 AM) what is the standard operating temperature of the sub in MY waters/seas? Surface temperature is higher than deep depth....hence giving negative sound velocity profile... giving much advantage for sub to hide, but also hamper sub safety when coming to periscope depth. Temperature can be 25 - 35 deg on surface, deeper can be 14 deghow to determine if its non hostile or both subs just ignore and continue to monitor each other? When sub meet each other...its always hostile. We could not identify each other. 3 steps: avoid collision, avoid counter detection & track her. |

I've been meaning to ask this.
Is it true that normal sailors will know nothing about their destination and where are they headed, with only a select few officers & crew that will know? For example you could order the sub to do random maneuvers just 50 nautical miles off Sepanggar and 10 hours later say you are nearing Singapore waters will the crew in the torpedo room believe this? |

i wonder if we need to inform countries when we passing thru their water borders in subs during operation? if no need, wont it trigger international conflict if kantoi? |

QUOTE(Justin.Loong @ Nov 26 2019, 11:35 AM) So when are these navigation lights are used? When docking / berlabuh? Navigation light on surface navigation.Have you watched Hunter Killer submarine movie? ![]() If yes, what do you think of the movie as a submariner yourself? Any similarities with actual submarine situation you might have experienced? For example; when the USS Arkansas was diving steeply, you can see the crews standing senget. ![]() Yup...when ascending or decending, we stand like that.... if not secure properly other things will start to slide. |

QUOTE(MilitaryMadness @ Nov 26 2019, 11:42 AM) I've been meaning to ask this. For SSBN yes... for conventional sub, not much to hide from crews. Normally ops crews know, but engineering crews care less about this.Is it true that normal sailors will know nothing about their destination and where are they headed, with only a select few officers & crew that will know? For example you could order the sub to do random maneuvers just 50 nautical miles off Sepanggar and 10 hours later say you are nearing Singapore waters will the crew in the torpedo room believe this? |

QUOTE(No Reason @ Nov 26 2019, 11:57 AM) its nice to read many q&a here when nobody's trolling. Of course sub is designed to be silent, discreet..... so we wont inform anybody. If kantoi, will trigger the whole fleet to search for usi wonder if we need to inform countries when we passing thru their water borders in subs during operation? if no need, wont it trigger international conflict if kantoi? |

QUOTE(Zaryl @ Nov 25 2019, 11:45 PM) I used to play silent hunter 1 PC game back in 1996. Since i really sucked at using torpedo to sink enemy warships, i just took my sweet time to sink an imperial navy battleship using a DECK GUN after 30 or more shell shots. WW2 era "submarines" are not truly submarines, but submersible ships. The implication is that subs of that era travel so much better on water surface than when submerged, so they actually spent most of the time on surface, and only submerge when stealth / evasion is required. Hence, it was feasible to have deck gun on subs as its effectiveness in harassing unarmed merchant ships outweighed the hydrodynamic penalty it carries. So my question: why there is no more DECK GUN installed on modern submarines? You gotta have it for personal defence or to take a pot shot at small ships right? In sharp contrast to WW2 subs, modern subs' hydrodynamic hull design makes them so much more suitable to travel submerged. Also, gone are the days of visual target acquisition when anything can be detected by hugely improved surface radar and underwater sonar detection technologies. Not to mention improved torpedo target tracking. Hence, surface gun battle for subs is no longer feasible. Subs have become the stealthy assassin from the depths. Something must go terribly wrong for a modern sub to get entangled in close range surface gun fight. Anyway, mind story a bit how you actually sunk a battleship with 30+ shells without getting sunk? I would get rekt almost immediately by mere destroyer guns if I stayed on surface longer than a minute lol. Not sure if SH1 was much easier to play than SH3. |

1) Since you meet submariners from other countries occasionally and talk through your own groups, chats, etc. - you are all considered friends right? But once in the water when carrying out missions, each crew other would consider each other as enemies? Don't communicate with one another to try to find out and say, hey remember me - we meet last time or are in the same chat group or something like that?
2) Does alarm ringing, playing music loudly, shouting or screaming in the sub will cause it to be discovered? I know knocking on metal walls and pipes probably would. 3) Does anyone suffer mental distress during long missions? Especially those who are claustrophobic or uncomfortable of closed spaces, but then again probably they would test this before selecting the crew. |

QUOTE(LTZ @ Nov 27 2019, 08:16 PM) Almost all of us said heavier....which is true. But wrong reason... only u gave the closest answer. Here is the answer.... As we know fuel oil is lighter than water. When we consumed oil, we cant leave the tank empty. The vapour inside, with the pressure effect can create diesel effect which can cause explosion. So, the avoid that, seawater will be filled inside, hence sub becomes heavier. To compensate, we have to drain some other water tanks. Balancing a sub is a trickier job..... k!nex got the balancing part right too, hirano mentioned the pressure effect which I don't fully understand |

QUOTE(k!nex @ Nov 27 2019, 07:32 PM) No difference. Its not a car. The weight of the submarine is supported by the buoyancy of water. You only change the volume of air in the ballast tanks. It has difference bro.... 2 aspects; one is weight, because of internal factors...one is buoyancy, because of external factors |

QUOTE(LTZ @ Nov 29 2019, 10:27 AM) 1. Officers share also....only captain has his own little room. Since the sub is 24 hours in operation, how is the shift like? 2. Yup... hot bunk. We do this... 3 person share 2 bunks 3. Every person is assigned with own bunks. Some needs to sleep beside, on top or below torpedo It is like 1st shift is 7am - 3pm, 2nd shift 3pm - 10pm, 3rd shift 10pm - 7am? Or each shift is 12 hours long then rotate? If crew sakit / demam, is there replacement on board? |

QUOTE(Justin.Loong @ Nov 29 2019, 10:33 AM) ![]() After firing the torpedo, if the torpedo misses the target, where does it go to? Will it actively look for another target? Or is it fire & forget? Yes, possibility to hit another target is there, since it only detect acoustic signal, not dedicated signal. |

QUOTE(Justin.Loong @ Nov 29 2019, 03:21 PM) If the torpedo has been fired and not exploded / detonated, since you can guide it, is it possible to bring back to your own sub for recovery and re-use (repair and use new guidance wiring, etc..) the same torpedo later? No u dont... u wont believe the system right?? Or if fired already, then cannot re-use? Is there some situation where you are required to do OT (overtime) where you need to do double shift? Or triple shift? There is no OT term in military, eventhough u work 24hrs, we receive the same pay |

Do you encounter underwater turbulence when sailing through typhoon, storm, tsunami or earthquake? Probably the effect would be greater if you are closer to the surface, or can dive deep enough to not feel the effect?
