WOW is definitely playable at typical Streamyx speed of 500-700ms latency and still playable (i.e. solo farming) even at 1500 ms. Might not be great for hardcore raiding or PVPing but if you dont do either of those, you will be fine. I nhave to say WOW handles bad latency better than the other games I've tried. All the other US-based MMORPGS I have played (City of Heroes/Villians, Star Wars Galaxies, Vanguard, LOTRO) all suffer worse (some a lot worse) than WOW when it comes to lag.

Not saying that WOW is perfect, of course. It has its detractors like everything else. Hell, I'm sure even Jessica Alba has guys who say "I dont see what's the big deal" but whatever....

Like the other guys said, give it a trial and see how you like it.

Frankly, with 1.5k, its really not worth to pay the monthly fees to play the game. You pay the same $ as with others, but can only enjoy very few portion of the game elements.

May as well try other online game dont need to cross the undersea cable.

There are some online games dont need good latency to enjoy them.

before we start giving doomsday scenario to bluffy83, let's try to lend a helping hand first, shall we? especially when we are all gamers (be it hardcore or casual WoW players), including you Kravo.

bluffy83, where do you live? usually the line connection is dependant on the IP that you can conenct to. and limsk is right, try out the trial. if you have a friend who has the CD, get it from him and install it.

there are some game elements that you might not enjoy but it's not to say that you will never get to try it out. quite of a few of us on WoW LYN raid regularly and even PVP in the arenas and battlegrounds as well.

as for the $ that one pays for online games, its' roughly RM50 per month which is common for a lot of online games out there. one reason we all still play the game even with lag is that the lag doesn't always last for long (if we're lucky) and it's still one of the best interactive games.

Ive always had interest in mmo's and have played a few titles b4 WoW- Dragon Raja (M'sia), Knight Online, Helbreathlol?.. Anarchy Online, WoW.. In my opinion, Blizzard really nailed it when it comes to the fun factor for WoW. Coupled with a relatively mature (compared to Msia -.-) international gaming community, logging on to level up/play etc.. was really something i looked forward to.

If you have played other mmo's, esp korean based ones that place emphasis on grinding, WoW will certainly be a breath of fresh air. When i first started, the seamless world (no loading screens across zones) took my breath away.

WoW isnt perfect, but its very good (if you are into these kinda games). And it can run on 3-4 yr old computers! Choose a right server that meets ur needs!

If you are studying, dont join WOW.
It will literally suck your time away.
It is more addicting then any other MMORPG i have played.

These few days i dont even bother login to WoW and play. The lag is unbearable. 1.4kms constant :-( I think you should try to get trial invitation from any of your friend that is playing WoW and try it out first. Maybe your connection is better than mine, i dont know but dont regret after you buy the whole package. WoW itself is a very nice MMO but its our ISP that seriously screwing things up.

I have VPn to my office, so 500ms is normal for me.
1.5k lag is when i use normal 1MB RM88 shitmix...

I usually play at qin dynasty cafe at the mines while waiting for movie at tgv.....2-3 hour playtime in bg.....

so at 1.5k...literally i can do rep farming.......or chatting.......

if you can handle the lag, you should try smile.gif

or wait for warhammer

Hmmm... any guide or tricks or just anything that can teach me more about this IP hunting technique? I keep restarting my connection everytime i reach 1.4k but to no avail. If there is something like a script or just anything that can help me with this im willing to try. Im on rm88 package. It used to be 400-500 ( 4-5 days ago) but now somehow i couldnt get that ms range already. Normal surfing and DL still alright, its just that WoW ping is really bad.

About WoW being addictive, yes it is :-)

believe it or not, i downgraded my RM88 package to the 512kbps RM66 package. and got less disconnection.

but then again, I replaced the entire telephone cable. reason was the old cable was very old and the telekom contractor didn't use one complete wire but used a connector that was exposed to rain or shine. one fine day, a thunderstorm screwed it up that i kept disconnecting.

so, i paid RM50 for a broadband recommended cable and RM40 for the normal house phone one. each line is dedicated from the phone post outside the house to improve the connection rather than a shared line but there's still problems. i can't use the phone upstairs anymore else my streamyx line gets disconnected. can only use the phone downstairs but like i said, the two cables are wired straight to the telephone post and not splitted.

in kuching, sarawak, i tend to dial up at certain times to get good IPs but then again, I leave the computer running at home all day. Other ppl uses scripts but dunno how to do that.

or just harrass tmnet. make sure that they are able to give you a good line and just complain and complain. they will eventually wear down. they opened up a 2 MB line for one of my colleagues in kuching, believe or not. huge harrassment though.

I cant do any replacement cable thingy, cuz im renting this apartment. LOL. Harassment is very time consuming ( u get to listen to their stupid customer call waiting song ) and waste money.

Now i just hope that things will be alrite after a few more days, else if really cannot tahan then only lodge report. I heard somewhere in this forum there is ppl mentioned about Shitmix international line having problem now. ANybody can confirm this?

For the ip hunting thingy, you just have to try and then remember which ip range works good for your area. You can tell when the authenticating msg is slow means the connection is bad. It has to be instant!! lol, if not instant, reconnect till get a diff ip range.

This was my schedule when i used to play wow:
9am-6pm college/work
8pm-12pm wow, then sleep lol.
Of course if it's maintainance day it's not like that tongue.gif

dont really hang out much these days. been buzy ma, selling bits of soul to WoW~

Anyway i've played with people who are married and i can tell you it's either the best group you'll ever been in or one where you have to prepare to run back to your corpse lots of times. But fun nonehtheless.

Reckon it's the people you quest and do stuff with that makes the game fun and addictive. OF cuz purplez could be another attractive factor too...

Theres no such thing as casual gamer in WoW. If you plan to be casual you'll eventually get bored of it very fast cause you will be doing the same stuffs that everyone else is doing

If you dedicate a little more time you will be able to see more endgame content which will eventually lead you and your guild to spend more and more time in it. Theres so many instances for you to clear in a week time and if your guild still in learning process then be prepared to spend countless hours without logging off with an extra epic loot cause a lot of time will be spent on learning and trying out new stuffs

Its either you play hardcore or dont play at all otherwise its a waste of money. I'm sure everyone that plays WoW will tend to be hardcore otherwise you'll be walking around only in Karazhan gears while others will be walking around with SSC/Eye onwards gear

I quitted WoW a long time ago after my guild down Gruul and i felt that my life span increased by twice lol cause now i have more free time to do other things

hardcore can be raiding every single night. even for a working person it's doable. just farm mats over the weekend. or even raid 5x a week is good enough.

raiding is not for casual at all. u don't succeed without the practice and the mobs.

leveling is for casual. non-heroic instances are semi-casual. heroics are still relatively hardcore since bosses like very hard and act like raid bosses.

and it's not kiasu-ism since any game, be it a video game, MMO or sports, is still very competitive. even if you're competiting against PvE, it's still competitive.

IMO, its only the unemployed pricks formed guilds that get the world's first kills or the fastest advancement. As long as there's progression, everyone should be happy about it.

agree on the last bit but name-calling in front is a bit uncalled for. it is still their RM51 per month, regardless of what we think of how they spend their money.

and err...what's that got to do with your understanding on ChGamer's viewpoint on a waste of money? it does sound that you're more ticked off by guilds that are progressing very fast rather than ChGamer's viewpoint?

Wed - raid 5-9.
Thurs - raid 5-9.
Friday - Swimming / tennis.
Saturday - Have drinks with frens.
Sunday - Relax get over hangover LOL n farm / pvp n raid again till 9.
Monday - raid 5-9.
Tuesday - Lim teh.

I think its perfectly doable. Occasionally i do play on fridays too but its just how u balance up ur time. When raid's over i chit chat awhile in wow and just log off and continue to do my stuff i need to in rl .Well i'm fortunate and have very flexible time but overall its still doable to have a life and play wow. Its a very general misconception that ppl who play who are losers with no life. -.-

Ok, that hardcore word get into me and it blurred my sense. What I have wanted to say then was RM 51 a month isn't too bad as its only RM 1.70 a day. In other words, playing hardcore or getting the greatest loots will not help you recover your 'losses' each day since the most important thing is enjoying the game.

That's until a shadow priest comes along and melted your face as you were about to finish off his fellow horde.

Which in turn will give much enjoyment to the priest but not to the pally. But then as the pally goes into 5 man heroic run later that day, he finally got his epic item that he wanted for weeks.

To sum it up, Karma baby~!

Just kidding bout the face melting part =P

Is it worth it to play WoW at RM50 a month?
Only YOU can answer that question yourself. If you find yourself constantly frustrated, damaged your PC and monitor because of WoW, and constantly have nightmares, cannot concentrate during work/study all because of WoW then...maybe it's not that worth it.

If you enjoy the game, like it, don't have to always replace your broken monitor and PC, then IMO it's worth it. RM50 a month is not that expensive. You will most probably spend more than that for just ONE clubbing night.

Just my RM0.02

throll~ling while working requires skill, mut be fast at clicking the minimize button before you manager sees it.

Or at least prepare a extremely superb justification.

Ps, bubble hearth is no longer do-able if the priest is quick enough. Dispell the bugger with mass dispeal ! and PEW PEW him ! thumbup.gif

only 1/9 chance as not everyone in the game is a priest.

=edit=
so yeah, "no longer do-able" is really an overstatement

Well...right now I REALLY have nothing to do. Suppose to have a meeting and then decide on what's the next step I should take but manager had some emergency stuff to handle. So I have to "pretend" to be busy doing more research..LOL

But previously, as Quazacolt said, had lotsa stuff to do, just that trolling takes precedence biggrin.gif

after a long 2 years of quitting, i plan to play my WOW back again..since my new office tiba2 got a bunch of WOW players and have their own guild...but when i wanted to...i think again...how streamyx wan handle edi...

fyi, i live in shah alam and 218.208/111 is my best speed which i used to WOW last time (hardcore pvp rank farming with my other US super pug) so <300ms is all good.

but after the taiwan earthquake, conn went bad, well yeah ofc everyone also kena...but then again ..its been forever since i tried to get 218... not even a chance man...so with 219.95... i cant even logon to the server...so my account went dead forever till today biggrin.gif

felt like tmnet blocked my port or what? calling their support is almost as hopeless as asking about networking to a pakcik who sell ice-cream...

so what shud i do? been trying to hunt for 218 ip for a straight 3 months i think, after i realized i was dumb and jz quit.

The number of people that complain in these forums are not a true reflection of the number of Malaysian players that actually play.

And there are still many of us who are able to play and raid decently well.

I've never had a problem with WoW except during the time we had a major disruption due to the earthquake. I'm on Streamyx as well. There are spots of lag during the game sometimes, but in 25 mans no real issues. In fact it's the Aussie based players that lag out or disconnect often during 25 mans.

I've been playing WoW for almost 2 years now...best game I played so far. But how addictive is up to the bloke who plays the game.

It's like blaming video games for all the violence nowadays. We all know it's bullshit, but there are some mentally retarded people out there that are "encouraged" when they play violent games. Normal people like me play the game, vent some frustration and forget about it.

So, addiction is in the eye of the beholder. Look at me, played for so long, don't have a single character above 55..LOLZ..I played every single race and every single class. Currently playing my warrior, lvl 30+ now. Very casually, like less than 10 hours a week.

If you think it's a waste of money, then you should stay away until you have the time to commit. I manage my time very strictly, instance last boss also don't care. Time's up means time's up. But I still enjoy the game immensely, and make the most of my play times.

Go for the trial. As I said, all that is to be seen, is through the eyes of the beholder...wah..sounds very Tolkien...lolz...must've hit my head somewhere...CIAO!

you obviously need comprehension classes, as he obviously did not state that. on top of that, he also gave advice to stay away if he has no control over his game times.

and for the free month, it would require the person to top up another month on top of the acct upgrade.

paladin is more simple to me...

ur in a PVP realm so i'm gona assume that PVP would be one of your main interests.

good character choices if u ask me, those 2 are amongsts the best in terms of "overpowered-ness"... and coincidentally i've played and both and am still playing the pally

i guess what you need to decide here is like Q said, do you like to be the one dishing otu dmg or do u like healing

given both characters, i'd say that a pally is more of a handful to play... healing is SERIOUS BIZZ!!! and that's the truth. i've played the warlock and i manually control my pet and still i have far less problems compared to playing a healer.

why? cos ur role as a healer is crucial, you have to be really dynamic and know wtf you're doing... other than keeping your team mates alive, above all YOU MUST stay alive yourself.

if u plan to play a warlock play an undead one, though an orc warlock is good for pve it, an undead one wouldn't lack much either. however pvp wise, an undead warlock is truly a force to reckon with. BE warlocks are just... u remember lance bass from N sync? yeah, gay and faggoty... the only worthless warlock is a blood elf one

easy mode healing i guess. but after playing a dps and a healing char, i'd say a dps char is very much more easier. I had the opportunity to msn while raiding and still reach one of the top dps. that was way way back then though... during hte gruul, kara era of my raids...

Ya, WOW is now more like World of Healcraft. DPS is soooo easy cheesy.
Raids are testing the healer skill.
Overhealing, mana conservation, downranking heals n timing etc

All DPS class are like Ken n Ryu of Streetfighter 2. Simply spam few buttons and do wonders to show e-peen.
Mage go scorchx5 fireball fireball fireball fireball...
Warlocks/shadowpriests just need to refresh dots.
Rogue just basically spam 1-2 buttons, sinister strike, mutilate or watever spec they are.
Hunters are even worse. All go spec LOL-IWIN BM spec and spam 1 steadyshot/autoshot macro thru out the entire fight. Only a few rare people spec MM or Surv and use manual shots rotations.
DPS shammy and druids basically have the same playstyle.

paladins are more of healer or tanker. best being healers (holy spec)

theres reasons why their melee dps spec players(retribution) are oftenly called retardins, retnoob or loladins.

if you want to be a melee dps (not tanker, theres a difference), then paladin wont be a good choice.

Well my roomies is a pally Tank and he off tanks for kara. Pallies can tank really well as an AOE tank. That means they can hold multiple mobs really really well. They do have a problem holding one or 2 mobs unlike the druid or the warrior. IF you want to tank as a pally you can tank all heroics if well geared but some might be a little harder the the other. For example. Shattered Halls is really easy to tank as a pally. Just get a healer and a mage and locks . You can hold multiple mobs and the lock and mage can aoe them down easily. Well Ret pallies on the other hand are good at pvp..but do not have sustained dps unlike other classes..thats why they fall behind. There is a patch coming out to upgrade pallie dps.. if you think there could be some hope.. you could go ret..but honestly.. if you go pallie... everyone will ask you to HEAL!. So do remember that.. even if you are ret you would be asked to HEAL.

I wouldn't recommend you to spec as prot war/pally as your 1st build.
Keep in mind that tanks are very gear dependant and they have massive repairs bills.
Expect to die a lot when you tank during early lvl instances coz you will see the most retarded healers during early game. (Druids refuse to shift out from kitty mode, shamans go pewpewwindfury, pally goes ZOMGSOCPROC! and priest went hiding in the shadows)

You will get scolded a lot if you cant tank properly (even though most of time is DPS aggro fault)
Prot spec will only level fast if you are skilled and people ask you to tank for them frequently.

BTW, we dont call ret paladins as ret pallies. We just call them as Retardin.
Retardin have serious issue with aggro. Their DPS is inconsistent.
They can go like less than 300tps and jump to 2ktps in a second.
Lol, my kara guild actually have one group with a retardin using Deep Thunder. He is mainly doing arena 3v3, 5v5 in my guild, not much of gruul's or TK for him.
