Great news for Full HD TV owners.
Are you lucky enough to have a 1080p HDTV? Killzone 2 will support you with more than just upscaling. For those that own a television that supports 1080i but not 720p, or even those with 1080p televisions, Guerilla Games will support you with a native rendering resolution of 960by1080. You might already know this fact, but Seb Downie of GG explains why they went in this direction and the advantages this resolution brings: "Ok, this is the deal: If Killzone 2 detects a TV that is set to 1080p or 1080i and cannot switch to 720p (our preferred resolution, for if your TV supports it), then it will render in 960x1080 and horizontally scale that to 1080i/p. "The advantage of doing this (over rendering 720p and then upscaling it to 1080i/p) is that you don't have *any* vertical scaling, and analog TV's don't even have a horizontal resolution. The result is a much clearer picture with much less artifacts for those who have a 1080i/p only set. "Killzone's advised resolution is 720p, we just made sure that if you have a 1080i/p only set, it looks much better than the 'naive' implementation of upscaling 720p" Good to know that Killzone 2 will look great on all TV's - apart from that 1950's 14" Black&White tele you've failed to discard. From gamesblog.ugo.com:
Posted by Russ Frushtick on 01/28 at 12:09 PM ![]() Since everyone seems to think I have an unnatural hatred for all things Killzone 2 (I don’t), I’ve decided to compile a list of the highs of Killzone 2’s campaign. Beware of spoilers. 1) The Big Battles Landing in the midst of a battlefield of Killzone 2 is absolutely a visual and aural treat. You’re surrounded by smoke, shouting, explosions and giant cannons shooting off lighting, and you can’t help but stare in awe for a little while. Having rewatched the Killzone target video that Sony showed off a few years back, Killzone 2 definitely comes extraordinarily close to matching its high standards. Considering that target video was practically an FMV, that’s saying a lot. 2) The Special Weapons There are a few special weapons in the game that are a blast to use, making you feel like a true badass as you mow down scores of Helghan. The lightning gun has infinite ammo and arcs to nearby enemies, taking down multiple guys at once, complete with twitching. The bolt gun is definitely more of a one-shot, one-kill weapon, but unlike bolt guns in the past, this one explodes a second or two after contact, giving you a second chance for a kill after a near miss. Lastly the flamethrower’s torch has a pretty slick arc, allowing you to fire over cover, melting anyone that’s hiding behind. 3) The Ground-to-Air Boss Battle I’m not going to say more than that, but there’s a pretty epic boss battle about midway through the game that was just plain satisfying. You’ll know it when you see it. 4) Taking out heavy Helghast Throughout the game you’ll come upon several “heavy” Helghast soldiers. You’ve probably seen them in some of the trailers. To take them out, you’ve got to blast away at their heads until they spin around, whereupon you must take out the exploding tanks on their backs. Enough shots and they’ll go kablooie, but if they manage to survive your onslaught, you’re probably going to be riddled with holes. These battles were some of my favorites in the game. 5) Brian Cox! Brian Cox plays Scolar Visari, the leader of the Helghast, and he really sells the voice acting. He’s a natural politician, which a strong voice and a feeling of resolve behind his words. By the end of the game you really begin to see where this guy is coming from, which is always the sign of a good villain. Sauce: http://gamesblog.ugo.com/index.php/gamesbl..._campaign_rocks |
