What's the purpose?

When most helplines for banks, telcos and companies force you to call their 1 300 numbers?

Do you know that your unlimited call plan do not cover 1-300 and 1-800 and you'll be charged on per min basis?

From my observation:
1-300 = not toll-free = charges per minute rate
1-800 = "majority" are toll-free
Other special numbers/hotline = charges per minute rate

I never call their 1-300 numbers. Instead, call their "overseas" number. Eg below:

However, if alternative number is not available, and no other choice but to call thru 1-300, then only use pay per minute rate but will ask the other party to return call if possible. If return call not possible, settle via Live Chat or email correspondence (depends on which service providers we are dealing with...)

Tried doing so instead of their 1300 option, always tried to find alternative local number 03-xxxx but it just won't go through. They only allow overseas call through only.

Not for Maybank. The overseas does go thru. Dunno about other Banks...The same goes for other service providers that have 03-xxxx options... Maybe Telco related...? I dunno...

I'm under UMobile GX50 postpaid plan...all alternative land line numbers are truly unlimited...

That doesn't mean unlimited call is useless. Find the 03 number, it can be use to call anyone without you worrying about bill charges.

Specifically try Maybank's. Their +603-7844 3696 (Overseas) number is only for overseas call. If you're calling locally to that local 03 number, your call will drop immediately.

So they force you to dial the 1-300 number instead,

I never use the 1300 number when calling Maybank before this...
Used Maxis and XOX (Under Celcom?) for few years and no problem calling that number

Its call fake marketing. They know not many ppl use to call while they rather use app to call so give u unlimited. When u use over they use far use policy on you.

TNB Careline 15454
TNB CareLine 1300-88-5454

Just dial or SMS 15454 anywhere in Peninsula Malaysia and where there is mobile coverage at the cost of a local call for voice calls, and toll-free for SMS. It’s easy and effective.

Charges
Fixed line calls will be charged as local calls
Cell phone calls are subject to charges by service providers
SMS’ are free

With today's unlimited call for national numbers countrywide, the 1-300 serves no purpose.
Aren't unlimited nationwide calls already TOLL-FREE?

Easy to remember but you're going to be charged by the minute for that. Convenience comes with a price huh? End up consumers will have to fork the bill.
