i've already handle 3 lanpartys but when it comes with cyber tournament, it is not really successful.. anyone can help about rules and regulations, type of matches, duration etc.. the games that will be use are :

1. CS: Source (duration) (5 people a team)
2. Warcraft III : Frozen Throne (DoTA of course) i dun know the format
3. FIFA 2007 (type of league) (5 people a team)
4. PES 6 (type of league) (5 people a team)

other games will be added later..

This tournament will be held in UUM where 3 lanpartys + 2 game tournaments have been done..
currently the idea is participants will bring their own pc, and other hardwares, while we just ready the table.. issit good or we have to make advertisements for rent their pc? any ideas guys?

err.. bringing own pc is a very very bad idea.. sweat.gif .. just think abt d transportation cost ppl have to find to get there with their own pc...

Im a fifa player so if u need some help on rules n regulation u can find it ind FIFA lowyat league which in d "sports" thread n "competition, league n clans" thread.. thts the current updated rules..

For type n matches, duration etc.. u can just follow d previous FIFA tourney we had which is EFC, The Dotcom Tourney,WCG n CEL games..

I think since maybe this is ur 1st time to held such tourney.. u shld try to contact with this organizer to help u more on making a better tourney~

In all.. must get everyone opinion counted~

I think u shld post this in d "Competition, league n clan" thread.. it is more approriate there~

Anythg abt FIFA can just msg me~ laugh.gif

since we dun have to use any cybercafe as host because we have our own server and switch.. thumbup.gif dota can play how long ah?

anyhow, our target is to bring out new potentials and "maybe" can be as UUM contingent to WCG Malaysia!

Since its a competition so plls wouldnt want to bring their own pcs. Even so i recomend no as Pll can hide hacks and cheats.
I think just rent pcs. More convenient that way. If not then host it in a CC.

Just host Dota.. If you want the crowds.
For the game format and rules just use the WCG format. If it works for them it should work for you.

Yeah right,it's just a brainless shitty map.Malaysian prefer game that require the least thinking and the easiest to pick up.

I think even playing Necrons need to think more than playing DotA.

Why cant these f***ing retards just play Necrons? They are also damn brain dead.

You can always look for sponsor for PCs, and btw, cs source is a good choice, as long as its the latest version, and played on steam, it will be best.
Sorry for my noobness, but where/what is UUM?

Simpul,

Bringing own PC it's not what I will recommend. I'm afraid it will cause more problems on the day. If you have your own gaming PC u can test it before the event and that's much safer.
Letting others bring their own pc you will probably face games version problem, some might have hacks inside their PC. If one of the participants PC infected by network virus, then it's going to be a big problem.

There's lotsa gaming tournament around the globe, you can take their rules as reference just make sure their rules are up to date.

yeah.. that's true.. and we will take the rent way.. can anybody giv the minimum specs so that all the games can be played smoothly? thanks..
regarding the renting, i think it would be cheaper if we rent from students than rent from cybercafes.. we really like if anybody wanted to sponsor / lend some pcs, but we did not know how.. tongue.gif

aiyoh.. as i can see, these folks here(UUM) like dota becoz well, kind of easy to play because dun have to build anything.. here, we even got their clans of their own, the difference is they come from different hostel colleges.. tongue.gif anyway, i dun want to see ppl come here and arguing about which is better, dota or standard.. since wcg did not use dota, maybe i will consider to use the standard.. but if u guys here insisted on dota, what can i say..

how about cs:source? issit better to use source instead of 1.6? what about the other games? any ideas?

dude, if you want more participants in ur tourney, regarding the warcraft thing, ofcourse in Malaysia, the 'dota' mod will get more participants. fujkenasai maybe is right about dota not yet that famous around the world compared to the melee but if you are targeting participants in malaysia especially ur uni, obviously dota is the right choice. correct me if im wrong.

Ish, sikit sikit dota vs the world. madness betul. blink.gif

Just do the games that UUM pple like. DotA, FIFA, Winning Eleven, CS etc etc. As for CS, I suggest you use v1.6 as the hardware requirement is lower and almost all local tournaments currently using 1.6.

I think a 2.0G CPU + 7600 Graphic cards+ 1Gig ram should do fine. For the games your running.

If you're catering to just UUM students, you should a survey among them to see they what they prefer to play.

No point over extending yourself trying to cater to everyone and having so many different games, stretching your resources too thin. Less headache for you at the end of the day.

Since you've said that you're not that experienced in organizing a tournament, my advice to you would be to start small then as you get a grip on things over time, you can work your way up to organizing bigger tourneys.

Sample rules can be found easily online:

what do you mean by wasted ? so u mean they should sell their high end rig and buy a normal pc because they play dota ? this is a total flame statement. I guess people who owns a high end rig but use it only for normal use like surfing internet, office applications etc etc will be worst than 'wasted'.

is this a UUM-Close competition? meaning only UUM students can join? if it is a "close" competition, then u need to do survery first, wat games do UUM students play? is quite meaningless doing a competition for a game that only 3 ppl play (yeah, those 3 can get first second and third placing, lol). get wat the crowd will play, get the rules done at least 2weeks before the competition so the players can practice. and byoc is a no no no no no no no no no. if u are looking for rules, format, u just post it here and i bet they are lots of experienced ppl in here tat will help u.

well, technically yes.. but depends on the situation.. even the lecturers can join and the changloon and jitra area..

once i handled (as a technician) a game tournament and the games were CS:Source(2004 & 2005), PES5 (2004), PES6 (2005), Warcraft III (DOTA) and Tumblebugs (a girl's game).. seems there are a lot of participants, around hundreds.. and believe me, they are a hell of gamers.. since there were 2 game competition ever held here, nobody ever checked or surveyed what games they like to play.. we wanted to change the tradition by bringing in FIFA2007 as the it is the official game for WCG.. But ppl in UUM said the game is too easy to play than PES.. anyway, i'm still thinking about wanna go for one game only for the tourney or maybe a couple of games as we got time.. hmm.gif

But ppl in UUM said the game is too easy to play than PES.
I bet that all those that say fifa2007 too easy are those that play against AI only.

no.. it's between human vs human.. once there was an unofficial tourney and it was the grand final.. the best vs the best, even got bantai kaw2, 7-2.. wonder why.. hmm.. it was too easy to score, even shoot straight and logically the ball can be stopped by the keeper, can go in.. anyway, that's what ppl thinks, not me..

if there was a fifa tourney with a huge amount of prize money, then you'll see a different level of people playing it

Added on September 16, 2007, 9:53 amthe tourney have been over! huahua.. thanks to information from u guys, maybe this tourney may not happened..

Here's what's going on.. we have selected 5 games be played on 10 PCs at the same time, for two days.. and it was opened only for Guthrie College students.. The games are :

1. Pro Evolution Soccer 6, 12 entries..
2. CS : Source, 8 entries, 3 ppl for each team..
3. DoTA All Stars, 4 entries, 3 ppl each team..
4. Tumblebugs, 20 entries..
5. Feeding frenzy, 15 entries..

well, kind of packed on the first day but we manage to finish the first round of all the games.. on the last day, PES6's Semi Finals and Final, while DoTA and CS got two games left.. Tumblebugs and Feeding frenzy is a whole day opened.. Kinda good for girls to show up for tourney which commonly be participated only by guys..

i on the other hand was one of the 12 entries of PES6.. and i've won 3rd place, if not for i don't know to use the gamepad during semifinals.. huwaa..
