So I bought a new cheap laptop it comes with Windows home and small size boot ssd.

Can I replace it with my working boot Windows 10 ssd from a damage laptop? Without need to reinstall Windows. This ssd is 512gb but its Windows is Windows 10 Pro upgrade frm Home using genuine upgrade key.

1. Do I need to do nything before swapping them.

2. Do I need to upgrade the small ssd Windows Home to Pro (using Shopee or genuine upgrade key etc) first.

3. Both laptop runs same login frm outlook.

Just remove the original one. Before that create bootable installation USB stick.

Then swap with new (in this case, you have untouched the original one)

Boot using USB stick and re-setup the Windows Home. License is automatic if you install the same as original that you have, activated online.

Else, upgraded version can be installed as well, have 30 days to activate, else no issue. you can buy upgraded key cheap cheap elsewhere as well.

Will ur new laptop warranty void if you open up the case and change the ssd?
If no, then is your new laptop ssd is same as old laptop ssd (m.2 or nvme)?
If yes, then I think you can just swap the old ssd from old laptop to new laptop, it should be able to boot. Then this means u will have an extra window in your new ssd.

No need to do anything on ur new ssd, u can just directly plug ur old ssd to new laptop and start.

I read before that some preinstalled windows cannot be relocated to a different machine... Is this not still true?

If your win 10 Pro was self installed by you, probably no issue, though.

You can swap but then most likely you will need to do installation repair due to hardware change. This is because when you install Windows on a computer, it sets itself up with drivers specific to that computer’s motherboard and chipset. So, it usually won’t boot properly.

Also, windows are designed to be locked to the hardware they were originally installed on

Try Acronis True Image or Windows Sysprep

Straight swap works great for few hours then it's Bluescreen. It got worse until even refresh/reset doesn't work. I end up had to buy external nvme and then use original ssd clone into it using macrium reflect. Anyway thanks for trying to help me.

hi, you can switch the old ssd from your damage computer to the new computer without need to reinstall. but the windows digital license associates itself with your device's hardware. If you make significant hardware changes on your device, such as replacing your motherboard, Windows will no longer find a license that matches your device, and you’ll need to reactivate Windows to get it up and running.
here is how to reactive the license key: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/20...hardware-change
hope it helps.

As long as it is an upgrade there should be no problem. Your windows license will be renewed automatically. Also as long as you have purchased a license, microsoft should know that and allow you to activate windows with the license key that you already have. I know rthat most people worry very much about what they are going to d o if their license i revoked bu they should not. Just do as you have planned. if things go wrong then contact mirosoft. If they ask you to get the actuvation key by purchasing windows then you will have to do so unless you are willing to go aroiund the activation key. I know a lot of people that never pay for their windows operating system no matter where they buy them. If you really cant afford to pay for it again the I will help you to get it for free. It wont be bad since you had alreay paid for it. Search for KMS activator.exe on goggle. use it to activate your windows for free with your own customized activation key. Do not be shocked. You can even use it to activate microsoft word.
