Hi all,

Is there a place where it is possible to make or duplicate a new key fob entirely and most economically, apart from the Authorized Service Center ?

An elderly man lost his 1st set of key fob and now he is using the spare key fob instead. Along with it, there is a tiny metal plate with numbers attached together. Since he could not afford the price quoted by the Authorized Service Center, I was wondering does anyone know where this can be done cheaply. Its a key fob for a Nissan vehicle.

Thank you very much.

Lost my key also but not those keyless entry type.
Was quoted Rm 200 at Proton dealer. Expensive because of the immobiliser chip, alarm remote control module and cost for reprogramming a new immobiliser chip.

I asked some duplicate key shops and was quoted more expensive.

Maybe can try asking this:

I havent tried him yet though.

Thank you all for your answers. I will pass your message along. Though he is based in Melaka, I guess he will have to make a trip to KL to sort this out.

Make sure don't lose the metal tag. That's the code to make new key if later want to do at Nissan.

Oh I see that it has a purpose. Thanks man, I've always wondered the purpose of those numbers. 👍

The thing is - If he gonna make a trip down to KL and back, the petrol cost plus toll will be like 1/4 (or 1/2) the price of the new key....unless take a bus biggrin.gif laugh.gif
*sigh* yeah, that's the steep price of a new key, because of the immobilizer plus remote.

Bus fare (2 trip) = Rm32 + plus Grab or bus or LRT.

Whatever it is, he better not loose this only set of key fob left.

Thanks a lot man. I am sure the elderly man wouldn't mind, even if indeed they are your relations. You just saved him an unnecessary trip to KL and all the hassle. 😊

A simple googling came out with this result but I didn't go any further and I'm sure there could be more. Cheers..

Do you mind telling what car is it? Exact model? Cause some has built-in immobiliser which will be more expensive to duplicate. Without immobiliser, it only cost less than RM100 to duplicate the key and the remote. Don't need to travel to KL. I am sure it can be done in Melaka. Try checking with those mobile locksmith in Pasar Malam. Most of them are able to duplicate key fobs. Even those with immobiliser they can duplicate as long as you have another set of the keyfob.

Ohhh wait..I think the metal piece is for the immobiliser code. That means the car does have immobiliser. Should be no problem to duplicate as long as you still have the ori key or the tag.

Not judging or anything but I rather go to a brick and mortar shop for something "sensitive" rather than going to pasar malam.

The pasar malam cart from which I duplicate my key actually have a shop. He goes around to pasar malam for more business. If anything, I can go to his shop. He even offered to go to my house for the duplication without extra charge. I didn't want him to go to my house for your obvious "sensitive" issue. If you feel safer going to his shop then that's fine.

Another guy works virtually from his cart parked outside a bank. He is there all the time. He has been there for many years already. He also seems reputable as a few people recommended him.

Therefore, do your homework is most important.

Did he already try asking the key shops in Tesco and Aeon Melaka ?
At least the one in Aeon, Ayer Keroh... never used the service, but the shop looks capable.

Thank you for your lead, I had informed his wife, so I reckon he would be checking out those shops first.
