Have you guys and gals every wonder why when you are down with flu, cough, fever or sore throat, when you go to clinic and have the doctor diagnose you,
the doctor will then tell you what to do and what not to do, 1 of the common sentense I heard is
"No fruits, no juices"
How come? I thought that fruits and juices are healthy and could bring in the the needed vitamins/minerals for the body.
"Drink plenty of water"
Ya, I think this is also most common coming from doctors, and they prefer you drink water over juices. Any idea why?

If coughing, no juicy fruits like watermelon or papaya.

If diarrhea, no milky fruits like banana or papaya.

If heaty, no durian.

You paid the doctor consultation fee. Why did TS not ask the doctor?
Down with flu, cough and fever, never been told by doctor to avoid fruit or juice

it depends on what illness you have.

my 2cent is by drinking more plain water, your body will get hydrated and your immunity system will automatically do their jobs.
fruit juices usually come with high natural sugar. hence to be safe, doctors will usually recommend us to drink plain water.

In my opinion, sugar, no matter naturally available or added in fruit juice, can promote bacteria growth in your throat. So when you have sore throat possibly caused by inflammation, drinking fruit juice will provide bacteria nourishment to cause the situation worse.
In addition, there's a theory about sugar can suppress immune system.

Pure water quickly leaves the body. The virus is always intoxication of the body, so it can only be "washed". By drinking plenty of water, you do not allow the infection to register in the stomach or oral cavity and remove toxins and waste generated during the body’s struggle with viruses. Drinking a lot is the main rule for a sick person.

This doc ur family GP? it could be based on your medical history, or something you'd have conveyed to him when he enquire during the visit.

so if you have been advised no fruits, no juice... you shall not consume fruits/juice. at least until ur condition improve

I asked another doctor for his opinion on the general reply by the doctors in clinics that I've visited in the past.
The general reply from the doctors on no fruits and no juices and drink plenty of water got generic reason.
Fruits (again not all fruits) are acidic, and may cause unwanted side effect. E.g. if got sore throat, and if consume acidic fruits like lemon or oranges, the acidic fruits' juices may cause more "tearing and thinning" throat tube (something like that) and when this happened, there's higher chance of bacteria will infect the throat and cause more swelling and damage.

In fact some of the replies in this thread are also valid, like what acbc said, if heaty, no durian.

Plain water (in general) is neutral, so it will help the body to recover faster.

Fruits and fruits juices are rich in fiber and it takes long times to digestion..A weak body cannot support such a long digestion period..That is why you are advised not to have them when you have such a health condition
