Has anyone been charged with inactivity fees before? Have a friend using pure IBKR and told me he hasn't been charged. Said he probably didnt accumulate $120 in commissions too.

Also for transferwise there seems to be a limit of only rm30k going out from the account per transfer. Does everyone do multiple transfers?
*
QUOTE(Ladszy @ Feb 2 2021, 02:01 PM)
Thanks for the info guys.

One more ques, on IBKR's site it says

>Account has Net Liquidation Value >= USD 100,000 (or non-USD equivalent)

If I have $100k in total spread across multiple currency or my stock values are more than $100k, I'd be spared from the inactivity fee right?
*
yes to red front.

i have seen ppl mentioned there is a grey period (i am not sure if this is officially stated in IBKR website) for a mth or two for new account, whereby no inactive fees will be charged. you need to find out further if it applicable to you.

Hi Sifus, minta pandangan.

1. I've recently opened an IB account through Trade Station Global. IBKR account got activated and I can log in. However when I try to link the IB account to the TSG account, I couldn't find the "Create, Move, Link or Partition an Account" link to do so. I emailed TSG customer support to get assistance and in their email they mentioned that my TSG account has been linked to IB account. Is there any indicator on the IB account if it has been linked to the TSG account? I worry if the TSG customer service were mistaken, then later I kena charged the inactivity fees by IB.

2. I've used InstaReM to transfer MYR->GBP to my IB account. First transfer, the fund went through alright. However since it was less then the TSG required amount of USD2500, I did a second transfer to top up to the required amount. Although I received confirmation from InstaReM that the money has been successfully deposited into Interactive Brokers UK Limited account, the amount is not reflected in my IB account. Does it take a few days for the fund to be reflected in the IB account?

Bumping this question.

Would like to know from anyone who did this before. How long does the withdrawal process take and the fees involved and the overall experience in withdrawing to a Maybank MYR account..

hi sifus, can i know why am i keep getting the notification of margin cushion: 0.15% from IBKR? i have always been using cash to trade, never used any margin b4.... im new to this, and getting worried about this. hopefully any1 can help me on this. thx!

QUOTE(polarzbearz @ Feb 15 2021, 10:15 AM)
It has been bugging me as well - can't find ways to disable it, since cash account's margin value is $0 - so when your cash balance is <6% of your portfolio they'll notify you daily laugh.gif

I switched my account to Margin Account (obv. for other reasons, not because of notification....) and stopped receiving it.
*
in client portal, there is an area where you can select what items you want to receive notification for.
try look around there.

Hi Guys,

I've been using interactive broker for the last 3 months trading US Stocks. I funded the account using my US Bank (I used to work in the US - so got some savings la) I also linked my Maybank for withdrawal (also my transferwise borderless acct, just incase)- yet to do any withdrawals though

However, I found a post on lowyat saying Maybank (or Bank Negara) blocks transactions from IB for their affiliation with forex? Hence cant fund or withdraw money to a local bank?
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4498867/all

I'm planning to trade stocks full-time as I generate a decent income from it every month, and Ive been investing/trading for last 5 years when I was working in the US (not a newbie la smile.gif )
Planning to register as self-employed for tax/banking purposes - already discuss with a tax lawyer friend - I have shared the conversation (tax for fulltime trader) in this forum for those interested in self-employment/fulltime trading
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/5102221

One question I couldn't answer my lawyer friend is that - is IB legal in Malaysia? Will BNM block the funds to be transferred back to our local banks?
I don't find any article/documents suggesting IB is illegal in Malaysia - and seems to the first recommended platform if want to trade US stocks from Malaysia.

Hope to get some feedback from Sifus here

ib is not a legal entity in my... in the sense it has no businesses here

is it illegal to trade at ib or any overseas broker? this is silent as in no regulations to say you can't as I'm aware, but I didn't dig deep... regulations mostly on how much money you can send out for investment, etc...

SC is banning a lot of legit brokers nowadays even when they have no business here...

bnm won't block incoming funds... banks will flag it and call you... get flagged too often without a good answer they will report you for investigations
*
i agree with dwRK.

open a bank account in SG for peace of mind. or if you have a debit card linked to ur US bank (not sure if its too late for you to apply debit card from IBKR), then use that instead unless you bringing in a big sum.

suspicious transactions will be flagged whether in sg or my... up to the banks how they trigger aml checking...

he has us bank, work history/records... can initiate xfer from there... repatriate salary as reason... easy no issue
*
AML is diff story.

"IB for their affiliation with forex"
i am suggesting that to mitigate risk of this being flagged simply due to the sender is/may suspicious in the future as SC added TD Ameritrade and few more to the alert list recently, and then TDA is not accessible by using certain telco without some workaround.

I got my account approved and ready to roll out. However, my concern is how do we know that we are under TSG instead of directly on IBKR?

The web link that I used is: https://www.interactivebrokers.com.au/portal/#/portfolio

There's no info over at the user settings as well. Are there any quick check that I can do to confirm that Im on TSG? (Apart from raising a ticket)

I am sorry for asking this question, its not related to IBKR but related to TDA Singapore.  as you know, TDA was added to the SC investor alert list last year. so TDA is on the list, and i bet that includes TDA Singapore. I already had the account before TDA was added to the list. I have some money in that account. I am genuinely worried if I'm screwed and unable to bring back my money. I have not tried withdrawing my money yet because I don't want to sell my stonks. Is TDA being on the alert list mean I'm really f*cked?
*
no. withdrawal should be fine, if you are super worried, u can transfer your stonks to another broker, then sell it and cash out.
google ACATS.

That's double exposure no? Both tracks s&p but Vwra has more exposure to Europe and EM. (60% still in S&P)
*
i am not sure u troll or not. his already clearly stated split not double down.

if you invest $100 in VUSA, ur exposure is $100 in US.

if you invest $50 in VUSA + $50 in VWRA, then ur exposure is $50 + $30 = $80 in US.
of course you can further customize allocation, dont have to be $50 in each.

btw FWRA has cheaper expense ratio than VWRA.

Hi,
for IBKR, when we place option trade, what to refer so that we can ensure we does not over trade of our account capability ?

ExLiq value.
try not let go below 30% of ur NLV, the higher the safer.

Eh I never abandoned it sad.gif just that the Forex thread went dead, I also didn't see the need to bump...
Ah I never got to try direct USD funding from Wise yet, the only time I did and was successful was my leftover Euros from trip... There was no fee at all, so thanks for the info.

I personally continued with the SGD route as I compared the rates SGD vs USD and didn't see much difference ... Don't wanna trigger Wise compliance check because IIRC they mandate that you as sender, must send from an account of the same name -- SunwayMoney/MoneyMatch would be labelled otherwise, so they violate that rule. (Others please CMIIW)

maybe Wise see your post and reduce fees biggrin.gif
just got an email from them

I think if you click to next page it is still asking you to select the currencies that IBKR supports,
instead of allowing you to deposit MYR right into IBKR balanceĀ  sad.gif

Hmm, that's sad. I saw a post on X where Malaysian Futures were added to IBKR and the cost was in MYR. So I figured MYR would be supported.

Wow I hope this is not like the old rakuten days where you can't hold currency balance for the instrument.

So each time you buy/sell, you need to do conversion fee

Buy FCPO, convert from SGD to MYR. Sell FCPO, convert to SGD from MYR.

Until IBKR allows MYR balance, just avoid
*
maybe MYR deposit and balance is coming soon.
i live chatted CS after failed to set trade permission for FKLI, according to CS, they currently not available to trade. rclxub.gif

With Anwar and Zaifu I can only hope they allow to facilitate their own USD movement out of Malaysia.

Today is Singapore public holiday, I just transferred via SG bank to IBKR citibank. Public holiday and over weekends they don't work? Meaning my money will only be reflected in IBKR on Monday morning? Anyone knows?
*
let's check back after few weeks.
I doubt IBKR going to offer bursa products that trade and settle in MYR without allowing MYR balance in account, like how Rakuten implemented in the past as per Medufsaid post.
