After months of researching and surveying for quite some time about aircons, last month I finally decided on Panasonic due to them having many features such as NanoG and shower cooling, both of which I think are really useful if it indeed works.

1) NanoG to kill germs so I wouldn't need to buy a separate air puirifier
2) Shower cooling is useful since I will be using 1 AC for a big space hence the coverage area is important
3) Price is more or less the same compared to its competitors (Mitsubishi, Daikin, York) even though Panasonic has way more bells and whistles.

Are those claims by Panasonic really true?

Nanoe G - It removes microorganism and dust particles as small as PM2.5 from the air.

Does the NanoG really work? Or would a standalone purifier work better?

Shower cooling - It has a sub flap and bigger flap with 2 independent motors for the 2 flaps. It supposedly helps to deliver airflow better.

But we can just set the flap in a certain direction in this case horizontally. And how can we tell this flap really does have a longer airflow? Is there a way to compare this with other AC's from the specs?

My living room and dining room and kitchen are more or less in one space. The AC will be on the main wall so that it can hit the living room and kitchen and lastly dining room on the smaller wall.

Therefore the aircon would need to cover a large area so it would be really great if this shower cooling works in concentrating a certain area and can have a more efficient airflow.

EcoNavi - it detects where energy is wasted and adjusts cooling power accordingly.
I mean it is cool but we can set the temperature and direction ourselves no? Not really necessary to me. But it is cool.

And with all these extra features; NanoG, EcoNavi), 2 motors for independent flaps, would there it be more prone to breakdown since there are more parts and sensors?

I was still 80% sure of Panasonic as I do think they would be useful if the claims are true.

However 2 shops that I went to recently said;
- Panasonic compressor is noisy. Mitsubishi is better as it is quieter and has a longer warranty of 7 years compared to 5 years Panasonic
- Panasonic has a high complain rate so they don't carry Panasonic anymore (could be an excuse to promote his other brands)

I don't mind Mitsubishi at all. It is in fact along with Daikin/York my 2nd option.
But is there any truth in the claims above?
I think the first one is the only claim that has any basis as the 2nd one could be just due to marketing.

I am looking at non inverter units btw since we only use aircon sparingly, 3-4 hours at night (timer) in the bedroom. In the living room, it would be really rare, perhaps when it is really hot during the day or when we have guests over.

I'm leaning 80%-20% to Mitsubishi now. 20% is to get the shower cooling feature for the living room only and the bedrooms go for a simple Mitsubishi. Shower cooling sounds really useful due to my layout.

Hope anyone can give any advice. Thanks

If you ask me i would say most of it are just gimmick, its my opinion. Dont get me wrong, Im a panasonic ac user for 4 years and counting and all my ac working fine. The most important thing is to take inverter ac and not the non inverter no matter how long u will use it on each day.

Im dont think the seller's claims are valid. My ac are damn quiet and still working until now (will on my ac once i reach home) . Of course im using the inverter.

Yes, but i dont use it as it will consume more energy. I will choose dry function over all the gizmos gave by them.

The shop told me another advantage of Mitsubishi is that it is easy to clean yourself.

Shower cooling is basically pointing the flap up

Nanoe- G, according to my doctor, he still recommends an air purifier( may vary for different people/health condition)

Econavi- didn’t use it at all, too energy saving till the air feels warm

Haha yes that is what I have been thinking too. Just point it upwards to the ceiling and then it'll spread around wrt shower cooling.

Shower function basically will full blast the ac and point it upwards once hit the required temp. As we know hot air always on top of cool air so it will circulate the hot air hence it will use more energy to cool it down.

for panasonic it is around the same or just 100+ more and you get all these fancy features whereas the others like Mitsubishi or Daikin doesn't have, just basic.

So I dont understand how Panasonic manage to keep the prices so low. Or perhaps it is the other brands pricing their products too high

The shower cooling effect is called "coanda" cooling. Previously only Sharp had this feature. I use it in combination with my ceiling fan, which results in a "cool" environment with the air cond being set at only 25 Deg C. The air is blown upwards towards the ceiling fan which then spreads the cool air around.

It's very useful when you don't want cool air to be continuously blown towards your direction, which can result in chills.

I'm planning to buy a Panasonic air cond to replace one of our aged York air cond.

Mitsubishi, there are two types; one by mitsubishi heavy industries and the other is by Mitsubishi Electric. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries air cond is normal type.

Mitsubishi Electric air cond comes with easy clean features; where the blower vanes can be easily removed for washing without using screws but the clips on this unit are meant to disintegrate after 10years of use without spares, thus you will need to replace the air cond once this happens.

Thank you very much for your input.

Can't the shower cooling affect be replicated by any other AC by blowing the fan upwards?

Shop promoter a lot of time has vested interest. They just want to sell.
Want to sell A brand time, say B brand no good, A better choice.
Want to sell B brand time, say A brand no good, B better choice.

Installer know more about aircond than those shop promoter because of hand on installing.
Better ask installer, as whether A or B brand, they still charge the same fee, hence they are more neutral in comment.
