I don't claim to know everything there is about God but I know a little of which I will try to help you understand.
John 18:36 (NIV) - Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders.
But now my kingdom is from another place."
This the evidence verse in the Bible.
We believe Jesus Christ is God represented, meaning to say whatever He says, is basically what God the Father says. This verse in John 18.36 helps us to understand this current world is not's God's Kingdom else God would have intervened and acted as stated.
However I believe..God is sovereign and omnipotent towards people who are serious with Him, people who will adamantly stick out their faith towards God no matter what. People who are genuine, having a n honest relationship..people who dare come to God despite of their flaws and weaknesses (not claiming people who are 100% holy or 100% perfect). Such I believe...can have miraculous grace with God..meaning having his protection and blessings.
but as to why some who may be... Christians but don't have such grace...I wouldn't know why, Only God's knows the real reason. Perhaps it's faith problem, perhaps there is unforgiveness in their life, perhaps there is something in their life that allows spiritual enemies (devil) to attack, perhaps this and perhaps that. Point is...it's between them and God, we will never really know.
As for your last question, yes it's possible that people will be so hurt they make a resolution to never return to God. Yet at the same time, nothing is impossible, there is always hope even for people who are extremely angry with God. I believe there is always hope.

Err Robert huckle raped 6 month old babies living in Christian orphanages. Don’t think there is a faith issue for the poor soul 6 month old baby.
He completely brainwashed a 2 yr old to be his sex slave for 2 years. He even boasted that she is an obedient dog to him in the dark web.
There has got to be a reason why god let it happen. You mean we will never know? Then how does this translate to his grace if we never know ?
