QUOTE(vostro78 @ Sep 13 2020, 09:05 AM) Anyone using mate30 without Google and still not yet get frustrated? Haha. Plus share your experiences. Too early to tell. Just set it up last night, and with the workarounds like Petal Search and Aptoide, only about 10 of my frequently used apps still can’t be installed/won’t work or have no substitutes (out of 55 or 60). Some aren’t so crucial (like McDonalds, Expedia) and some are important (like Citibank, HSBC) but I have a second phone for those, so we’ll see if I can live with (or rather without) them for the next two weeks.A couple of things that have stood out to me: - 1. Both Face Unlock and the FP reader is BLAZING fast! No other brand comes close - the Face Unlock is even faster than iPhone’s Face ID coz it has the option to unlock without sliding up. The in display FP reader puts the likes of Samsung and Xiaomi to shame. I’ll reserve my assessment on the OnePlus since I have yet to test their new one on the OP8, but it’s definitely faster and better than my last OnePlus, the OP7 Pro. 2. The battery life has been impressive. I unplugged at 98% capacity last night yesterday at about 8pm, set up the apps and what not, then updated the phone twice (now running on August 2020 security updates) and the battery is now at 68%, after a little over 4 hours SOT. Of course, this was all done mostly on WiFi. The real test starts today Watch this space! This post has been edited by attw: Sep 13 2020, 09:44 AM |

QUOTE(rainie1284 @ Sep 13 2020, 11:15 AM) True the sensor is one of the best on phones damn fast.. Also my battery on mate 9 still ori never change and working perfectly QUOTE(TOMEI-R @ Sep 13 2020, 12:06 PM) I can attest to that. The on screen FP sensor is indeed faster and unlocks smoother than on the likes of the OP8. Agreed. The FP sensor is fast and accurate. A joy to use! QUOTE(am84496 @ Sep 13 2020, 11:48 AM) What happen after two weeks if everything fails to meet expectation? To the garage sale? Haha. Very eager to know your outcome after two weeks. Haven't unbox mine yet. Even if everything meets expectations chances are I will sell off the phone in 4-6 weeks max, bro. It's just what I do, hahaha. But ya, if it doesn't work out within the first two weeks I'll either try to sideload GMS as an experiment or revert to a different phone. I have a Poco X3 NFC incoming in the next couple of weeks or so and still have my Realme 6.This post has been edited by attw: Sep 13 2020, 02:12 PM |

If it has been molested by you for 3 to 4 weeks and willing to let go cheap cheap, I'm ok. Hahaha Haha, no la, just a very expensive hobby. QUOTE(TOMEI-R @ Sep 13 2020, 02:49 PM) Oh ya, that. QUOTE(TOMEI-R @ Sep 13 2020, 06:46 PM) Unfortunately, that couldn't be further from the truth, hahaha. My day job is very boring... QUOTE(am84496 @ Sep 13 2020, 06:48 PM) Tried ringke, hoda, supcase, xundd, uag, x-one before. So the ringke design very familiar. I think ringke camo more nice. X-one case is the worst and overrated. Piece of shit I usually go for UAG or Spigen coz I'm not a fan of clear cases, but since I discovered this Ringke camo black series, it seems to be the best balance between price, protection and design |

QUOTE(am84496 @ Sep 13 2020, 07:24 PM) I found that ringke not comfortable for long time use but it rank no. 1 for protection. The edges too sharp. Sakit tangan when hold long time. Now using supcase. Light weight and comfortable Supcase is a clear case right? I don't like clear cases coz of the micro scratches that will be visible after some time QUOTE(kamikraze @ Sep 13 2020, 09:39 PM) Managed to get Phone Clone from wife's P30, most essential app are working including whatsapp. I guess if I want to migrate whatsapp from iphone I need to do that into P30 then phone clone to Mate 30 Pro. Google Map is working, just can't login so any saved location won't be there. Walk in to Huawei Store also can't help to install GMS. Of course they won't do that, hahaha. The purpose is to encourage more people to use their Media Gallery and lessen the dependency on GMSQUOTE(xperiaDROID @ Sep 14 2020, 02:06 AM) Ya, that happens in a number of apps. Hopefully app makers will join the HMS bandwagon soon. I've been impressed with the phone so far. |

QUOTE(kamikraze @ Sep 14 2020, 09:38 AM) weird, I got my friend who use P40 Pro managed to get GMS installed by the Huawei Shop he bought from for free. Asked him about this and that's why I went to visit Huawei Store nearest to me. I think it's unlikely for GMS to return to Huawei especially not in the near future. It really is a waste! Even if need to pay to work, I'd go for it. It's ashame to see great piece of hardware lay waste not fully performed. Almost everything are great on Mate 30 Pro, except for the app number. I don't care if it's GMS or HMS, as long as the usability the same. Wish to see GMS back officially to Huawei's phone. It's never been good to us consumer. QUOTE(kamikraze @ Sep 14 2020, 09:42 AM) Wew, harmonyOS wasn't even care about number of app being used on those GMS-ready phone. Huawei said 96,000 apps are now integrated with Huawei Mobile Services -- an increase from 60,000 in May, which was the last time the company publicly released this figure. The company also revealed that there are 1.8 million develops on board, up from 1.4 million in May. (from CNET) HarmonyOS news Long way to go before catching up with the likes of iOS and Android. |

QUOTE(vostro78 @ Sep 14 2020, 11:48 AM) Haha, yeah, good point. All Huawei device threads should include this disclaimer on the first post QUOTE(xperiaDROID @ Sep 14 2020, 12:57 PM) Not sure if it's just me cuz I feel that the progress in porting mainstream apps into App Gallery have slowed down, the first few months has been great though but still not enough. Maybe Huawei offered more incentives in the first couple of months, hahaha...If I'm not wrong, Huawei doesn't allow their official stores to sideload GMS, it's also illegal for them to do that. |

QUOTE(rainie1284 @ Sep 14 2020, 07:40 PM) Hahaha, no chance of that happening. If there's no more future flash sale, I think can still easily fetch RM2k for this phone from people who are less savvy about these kinda deals! QUOTE(am84496 @ Sep 14 2020, 08:23 PM) Yes, I'm impressed so far, but it's still a bit too early just after one full charge and two full days of use. Lets give it a week or two! |
