This trick stop working since Sierra.
Work-around for me is switching to VLC.
If there are a reason you wish to keep QT, you can play the video tru Safari. Just drag and drop the file to Safari.

Double-clicking still doesn't really work. As you change the default application to open the movie file from QT to Safari, certain file will prompt with security alert.
