Link REIT surprised the market with a very-steep-discount 1 for 5 rights issue to raise gross proceeds of 18.8 billion HKD (net proceeds 18.5 billion HKD after expenses, 40-50% of which is used to repay debt, the rest for general working capital).

The paper actually provided examples of exchanges in different jurisdictions that require even stricter UBO disclosure like SG (extending to derivatives). If HNWIs or bad guys wanna hide they will usually use nominee directors of a shell company/trust as a front so UBO won't affect them I guess.

I doubt it's tightening from mainland China. The article mentioned that northbound HKEX-Shanghai-Shenzhen Stock Connect already has such mandatory disclosure rule since September 2018, as required by mainland China's regulations. So, it's been implemented for years already.
