My 12 yrs old Samsung 226bw is getting more white patches day by day, tried some methods to rectify it but still no use.
Years back like to play strategy games so a TN panel with 60hz and R9 270 2GB could still satisfy me. Recently trying more on FPS and racing titles. Felt the 226bw struggles to keep up. So thinking of replacing it with a larger 27" 144hz panel.

But i'm not sure to get a 1080p or 1440p.

Current setup:
i5 4670 3.4Ghz
Sapphire RX580 8GB
Hyper-x 16Gb DDR3 1600mhz

Correct me if Im wrong,
If 1080p, can get better frames, higher details but less sharp with a 27" screen
If 1440p, can get sharper image, future proof but lower frames, lower details

Currently eyeing on:
1080p: Acer VG270P
1440p: Acer VG271UP

Also I'm unsure of the smoothness/performance if let's say the gc is only pushing out 60fps to a 1440p 144hz monitor.

Hope sifu here could shed some light and suggestion on models.

Ya true. Might not wanna upgrade so soon since still can play some AAA titles.

Eyes said 1440p but RX580 said 1080p

If low fps on 144hz 1440p will it be better or worst than a 60hz screen?

Thx, guess I'll go with 1080p for the moment. Not too keen on ultra details as long as smooth using mid-high settings is fine. Can get 60-70fps on 1080p is good enough for me. If going for 1440p guess the cpu, gpu and ram all gotta change.

Thx, guess 1440p mayb too much for 580 despite AMD market it as a 1440p card. 1080p should be the sweet spot.
Any suggestion besides Acer?

Hvn tried or seen it in person even youtube gameplay couldn't justify the performance for 1440p@60fps. Thus asking 1st hand experience from u all here.
Will be opting for 1080p 144hz then. Guess 1440p will reserve for new hardware in the future

Thx, upgrading the gpu is an option too but it could bottleneck the cpu. Guess might as well upgrade the whole rig down the road.

Afraid the noob i5 4670 couldn't handle any higher tier GPU, bottlenecking it all the way.

Good to hear that. Freesync/G-sync does helps a lot from stuttering and tearing.
