Glad I found this thread. Somehow got my courage to sell my car after reading all the insights shared here. Been using my VW car for 8 years with a year remaining to settle my loan, as the car getting cumbersome for me to maintain, I often contemplating on many things like resale value against loan settlement, should I repair first and etc.

I want to highlight and appreciate @rufinus for the very good experience with Carsome. Contacted him and he was very responsive. He has helped me to get the pricing I needed for loan settlement with a little bit extra.

I couldn't describe much in detail but the during the process I felt guided and assure all is well at the end which came true.

Hi bro,

Appreciate you can share some info about your 8 years ownership of your VW.

Especially the bads, because this will be a very useful info for any potential buyers before deciding on the VW cars.

Many thanks.

i bought vw polo 1.2 tsi (dry dsg 7-speed) from vw federal auto back in early 2015. sale advisor who attended me at the time was very superb service. for 6 years, i never experience dsg problems like most other vw drivers complaint about and it worked well for me, maybe because i am casual driver.

the problem started after change all the sensors due to wear and tear. i did it at vw sc selayang and the workmanship was so bad i had to go back and forth many times to rectify everytime HUD indicator lighten up because of sensors. first reason they gave, sensor misalignment then bad sensor and so on. they even left behind tools inside the car after pass back to me and i aware already at the time, their technician lack of discipline and incompetence. after 5th or 6th time, they started to charge me for labor cost which clearly the problem caused by their mistake in the first place.

i had no choice but to use the car in its condition for awhile and this led to other problems, due to faulty sensors, engine firing become bad and etc. a friend told me to go to vagtechnik and after checking this time the damaged caused by faulty sensors had gone further affecting the dsg mechatronic. though i can afford the cost, but i rather use the money as downpayment for honda city. the vagtechnik technician said to me, car still can drive no problem but not as smooth due to gear shifting something something.

sorry tldr

1. if you drive vw correctly, it will last for good. vw car not for racing one.

2. even for vw, you will never know if your official technician attending your car is competent or not. imo, they are as good as other un-official garage technician out there, in fact outside can be better and way cheaper. in my case, got bad luck at vw selayang (no more dy become proton 3s).

3. conti car especially vw use and reply a lot on electronics and they aren't cheap but there are alternative 3rd party brand. in my experience, u can use alternative but it will not last long and often you need to change them very frequently.
