Hi, I am a fan of wearing fragrances , been interested in it for the last 3 years, but I don't use everyday and I don't spray that much, only 1 spray to wrist, dab on other wrist and both sides of neck, or sometimes 1 spray to my shirt's sleeves(although I know that spraying on clothes isn't good for the clothes and doesent bring out the scent).

My fragrances I am using now are popular designer ones like Bleu de Chanel EDP(2014), Montblanc Explorer(2019), and YSL L'Homme and YSL La Nuit.

I am Chinese male and my age in my mid 20's and I noticed that my Chinese guy and girl friends back in the private university I went to last time don't wear fragrances and my colleagues now, both male and female, don't wear fragrances too.

I am open minded and like to interact with all races but right now my peers I see everyday at work and out of work are majority Chinese and I am conscious of how people around me react to my fragrances. Recently I searched on Google for the topic 'fragrances for Asian men', because I think I have heard that Asians prefer lighter fragrances and also, Chinese dont wear much fragrances.

I came across this few years ago Basenotes(a perfume website) thread. The threadstarter stays in Taiwan and wow the reactions he gets are quite terrible and sad. I feel bad for him. Have a read and see.

Could maybe some of you please share ur experience of wearing fragrances in this country and whether the people around u at work or out of work also wear fragrances? And what type of people do you interact with daily and what positive or negative reactions u have gotten? And please do share any advice you may have for me regarding perfume selection and application. Thank you

Well, for office i normally go for pleasant scents or those that are not intriguing to the big masses.

I found that Tom Ford could be hit or miss depending on what the notes are.

For example, Santal Blush (TF) which is heavy in sandalwood got me comments such as "did you went to chinese temple during break time". blink.gif

Thus, i opt for something with low-to-mid projection and silage such as Jo Malone or Atelier Cologne (they dont last long so it doesnt offend them much). My normal office picks would be Dark Amber and Ginger Lily or Wood Sage and Sea Salt.

I guess Bleu de Chanel, Terre de Hermes or Dior Savage is suitable for office environment, just don't overspray it.

At max, I would put around 4 sprays on my shoulders.

What's life without some adventure?

I'll usually punish my colleagues and clients by spraying heavy doses of perfume on a regular basis.

I favor Oud on a daily basis, however I might manage the spray depending on the weather and crowd.

I like roses based perfume if I am feeling a little calm. It usually gets people asking and poking around about the type and brand of the perfume once they are near.

There's no hard and fast rule when it comes to perfume. But it's generally polite not to offend people with 10 sprays of heavy scented perfumes on a daily basis.

Acqua di Gio, Cool Water, Eternity suits all occasions and our weather. And Hugo Energizer too in my opinion

But of course in the end it depends more on an individual's preference lah.

Some like it light, some like it heavy.

Drakkar Noir or Issey Miyake works well for me. Just 3 to 4 sprays goes a long way.

Am I the only one who thinks Drakkar Noir smells like Brylcreem Hair Cream?

Don't get me wrong, I have one and it's one of my favorite go-to frag.
