EDIT June 23 2020

So I got the Decathlon rack in post #2 and have been using it for a while now.
I would really like a second bar holder but decathlon doesnt sell this separately.

Anyone know where I can get another set? I am comfortable with buying from Taobao if needed.
Purpose is so that I dont need to unrack the bar, swap the position of the holder and re-rack.

This is what I'm looking for:

Original post:

Here is what I'd like to have in my gym

1. Squat rack
2. Bench
3. 1 full length oly bar (86")
4. One set of weights
5. 3m x 3m floor padding

For those that have home gyms, could you advise me on the following

1. Place in klang valley or seremban/nilai area that has sample equipment that I can see for myself. Most sport stores only have catalogs

2. Pros and cons of your setup.

they do have squat racks... you are not considering the power rack?
*
I'll consider if the price is right.

Do you know where I can get a mini barbell jack?

did up my home gym from savage gears. HQ in damansara. Barbell, power rack, mats and weights.
Added wooden olympic rings from decathlon for variety.
Also recently purchased chains from hardware store for weighted dips and pullups.

Do you have a bench?

IMO, for home use, try these silicone wedges instead. Even more convenient to use and store.

I prefer the jack because it props the bar up when changing the last plate.

Do you have a bench?

I mostly have everything I need except a decent bench and those jacks.

Not atm. Since I got the rings I've been doing ring dips. I have a 90 degree bench though but dont use it often
5k? Go to the website they have packages u can choose for yourself

I checked out their site and saw they listed a bench at RM2100 and that's a bit too much for me right now.

Time to look into doing bench presses with a yoga ball.

I would suggest you to do floor press instead of doing it with yoga ball, the instability (thou give you slight core muscle exercise benefits that can be replaced by other safer options) are pairing with greater risk of injury.

Just use another plates to "alas" the weight plate and slide under the bar for floor press.  biggrin.gif

Oh ya, no bench for me ATM, out of budget already....hahaha!

Target next year to get a flat bench (as light/simple as possible to move around) + a proper workout cage. (squat, bench press, dip, pull up....etc..)
*
Floor bench presses full ROM is up to the plates or elbows touch the ground right?

Feels weird that the bar wont touch the chest.

Not TS, regarding dumbbells, I see that many people love to buy a dumbbell rack for their home gym and then have fixed dumbbells for each weight.

If space is a concern, is it better to buy a adjustable rubber dumbbell? And probably cheaper? I only have to waste a bit of time by removing the rubber plate.

You could get something like this

https://s.lazada.com.my/s.1eAK2

It has a knob at both ends that you can adjust to select your preferred weight before you lift. After you're done, you just slot it in.

The cons of this is that you're limited in the weight vs swapping out rubber plates and that the mechanical parts may fail over time though thats more common in a gym because you have multiple users who don't really care about handling the weight properly. For own use, it will last you a while.

Nice! Got 53% discount.

or else it is almost RM1k from Amazon
*
I dont have this or any dumbell, but I'd say that this is a decent deal especially if you get a pair.

There are much more expensive ones like the model thats at fitness concept showroom retails for RM2k if I'm not mistaken.

The difference between this and the expensive ones are the mechanical parts and an optional stand. If you use the discounted one enough that it breaks over time, I'd say that justifies spending a little bit more for a different model later.

the latest stock of basic powerrack from savage gear is good.

some might say it's small (ie. internal depth is around 50 - 55cm only, and width is smaller then most commercial gym power racks), but i find that "smallness" kept my form in check, hell you wouldn't need to be stepping back more then 1 step after unracking the barbell for squats anyway, and your bar path for most lifts are usually vertical anyway so there's no point in have so much real estate inside a cage when most of the time the emphasis of weightlifting is solid, stable, immovable base- unless you're >6ft, 100kg above - then look elsewhere.

i can do ohp/squat/deadlift (lazy move the barbell outside lah, way easier to slide out the safeties only)/flat&incline bench/rows/chinup&pullups all with this small cage
*
If you can do the OHP inside the rack, that's a plus.

I cant do the same in the decathlon unit I bought, it would clash with the upper frame.

Any bros have a home gym in condo?

My condo gym closed more than a year now and don't really have good equipments for compound movements so I'm thinking of getting a power rack from savage gear, but not sure if the tiles or floor loading can handle the weight. I worry if over time, the weight will cause the floor to sunken.

Used to squat heavy almost daily at external gym but with Covid, all closed and I really miss it. unsure.gif

Any bros can share tips/experience? Thanks in advance.

My quick recommendation would be to invest in mats as opposed to having the weights be installed directly on tiles. I routinely check mine on a quarterly basis and use a level to check if my house floor is bowing.

Thanks for replying boss.

Yup, definitely will get mats or else neighbor below sure will complain whenever I'm re-racking.

How long have you had your gym setup boss? Also, is it safer if I place it near beams?
*
I've had the rack for about 1.5 years now and just added a treadmill in sep 2020. I see no harm in putting it near beams but it might not be necessary

rack only is around 2k i think, i got the xmas promo, include barbell, plates, rubbermat 100cm x 100cm

at first i was checking out the eleiko set since it's a lifelong investment, 16k for rack, 3k for bar, 10k set of plates, but once i bought the savage gear ones, it's already good enough for me with no intention to upgrade already.
*
Is the eleiko set available locally or need to import?
