You can refuse a search but they also can refuse entry.
They can because nothing stopping you from eating before, after or going out of the cinema. Eat then go back in again. Bus on the other hand, don't sell food. Also you can't get on and off at own convenience. |

This is same concept with airline not allowing you to bring in outside food to eat in the plane.
