Would Antivirus and Firewall from Microsoft sufficient enough or do you need an additional Antivirus program to go with it?
And what Antivirus would be good to invest in.
I find that Antivirus tends to slow your pc, right?

Using Windows built-in virus and threat protection since the beginning.
No issues here.

for light users MS AV is more than enough, unless you like to visit Chinese/illegal sites then its better to have AV with internet security.

Nowadays you don't need to worry much since Windows Defender has earned one of the top spot on Anti Virus. Do keep windows updated though.

IMHO, third party antivirus actually makes your PC even more vulnerable - a lot of third party AVs tend to have a lot of vulnerabilities and often compromises your security by hooking it deep into the system, interfering with components that actually protects your PC from malicious software Windows Defender (now known as Windows Security) with adblocking software should do the trick, and keep your machine updated with Windows Updates

Just make sure you have Windows Security configured properly. Combine that with safe browsing habits and good browser extensions (eg: uBlock Origin) and you should be quite safe. Obviously, the best protection is to wipe Windows and install Linux

And what Antivirus would be good to invest in. I find that Antivirus tends to slow your pc, right? No, in fact Windows Defender is more than enough and works better than third party ones. Some third party ones often interfere with certain Windows protection features (that actually helps in malware/virus protection) by hooking them deep in the OS I would even say that even a PiHole works better than a third party antivirus Just ensure that your machine is patched and you're good to go This post has been edited by chocobo7779: Nov 26 2019, 12:31 PM

QUOTE(ModernZorro @ Nov 26 2019, 09:48 AM) some antivirus claims that it can stop ransomware among so many other functions, how efficient is that? anyone knows the mechanism? Not sure, but usually the best way to prevent ransomware from spreading is to shutdown the machine (not just shutting down through the OS, but a hard shutdown by pulling the power plug/battery/holding down the power button). Then disconnect the Ethernet cable or remove any wireless adapters to prevent it from spreading over the network

Been years and not using any antivirus on any Windows based system that I have.
