Even if it's metail chain there's still wear an tear, probably not as bad as belt though.

belt doing all the torque transfer from engine to the wheel.
thats why hybrid use it, electric motor reduces the output from petrol engine.
thats why hybrid CVT can lasts for so long.

light vehicles that dont drive like race car use CVT is fine i guess.
but now Subaru AWD also use CVT topkek !!!

Try to please everyone, end up causing more problems later.

In truth another reason is due to chasing after fuel efficiency figures and emission ratings. This is a trend for many carmakers....making more complicated designs in the name of efficiency. Rosak xpe, janji jimat minyak.

this is so true man, just like the start stop technology, the dumbest innovation ever, just to save the few ml of fuel but starter, battery, engine semua rosak

start stop is also a technology from hybrid vehicles.
but it's for emission purposes cuz CO2 are created the most when stuck in a jam

u think manufacturer do that on purpose? in the name of saving the mother earth?
you couldn't be more wrong. they were forced to adhere to the strict regulation especially in guailo country.
in fact, their roadtax depends on emission thus producing a high efficiency, less pollution vehicle is crucial to them.

car with start stop dont use ur conventional starter la. battery also special for this purpose.
my serena with fake hybrid got no problem at all except the stopping time cant last more than 5 seconds.
but the immediate start stop is still working fine.
i realize perodua latest myvi using the car starter to restart the engine though after hearing the engine start sound.

I never said they did this out of love for the environment.

They do it because a) like you said, to meet regulations but more importantly b) to deliver impressive fuel consumption and emission figures for their sales brochures.

a) imposed by regulator, nothing they can do
b) this has been their selling point for the 20 years isn't it?

in fact, if not due to regulation, they could produce more power and give better fc easily.
i still remember during the days where 170+ bhp engine in the typical japanese car which malaysian bought the halfcut and treat it like a sport engine.
nowadays the similarly working engine only available for premium vehicle and at worst HP/L rate.
