More review on the Thinkbook 13s. (vs the T495).

When using the ThinkBook (intel) for Chrome web browsing, i felt it performed better than the T495 (ryzen). I decided to try a benchmark for web browsing. Found one on google (If you guys know anything better let me know, i can give that a try too). True enough, the Thinkbook actually performs better than the T495 in the benchmark test.

Other things nice about the ThinkBook is the startup time is fast, like almost instant, for this reason I notice that i would gravitate to using the Thinkbook more just because its faster to start-up.

Built quality of the T495 is built like a tank, the ThinkBook is still okay, but not as well built as a thinkpad, you feel like you can use the thinkpad to smash something and it will still work, whereas you don't get that same feeling with the Thinkbook. Still the built and the smaller form factor of the Thinkbook is still good enough.

As for display real estate, going from 14 inch to 13 inch, it doesn't really feel like you lose much. Seems like you get the same content coverage on the 13 inch with the added bonus of it being smaller and thinner and easier to take around. Which display is better is still a bit hard to say, they are almost similar.

Battery life in the Thinkbook is amazing, I still need more time to actually gauge how much time i get, but lets just say I went the whole afternoon without a charge. Here it definitely beats the T495 and can last longer. If I were to give an estimate I would say between 6-8 hours real life usage, although the battery estimate at the battery icon shows 10-12 hours.

My ThinkBook unit actually has one defect that I found and that is a "crackling" audio sound coming from the left speaker. It doesn't happen all the time. Its on and off and happens maybe once or twice throughout the day. When I google, I see that this is a common issue in Ideapad and Legion laptops. So far i haven't found a fixed for it but its not something troubling and you can live with it cause not too loud.

Overall very satisfied with this ThinkBook 13s.

Im happy that you like thinkbook, because i sort of feel like im the one pushing/endorsing/talking about thinkbook 3 months ago.

Thinkpad is too.serious and black. Ideapad is too heavy and max 12gb ram.

Thinkbook seems like a good balance. And its cheap and good battery ( my original setting was to get i7 without GPU as i want best battery life, about rm2800 i think)

Then the 10.10 deal came.

:claps:

Its convenient, because of the startup time, small form-factor and the battery life. These are the three top strength of this Thinkbook 13s.

And I actually have a hunch that "maybe", this Thinkbook 13s (i5-8265U) is actually more powerful than the T495 (Ryzen 5 Pro). On web browsing it is yes already.

So i5> ryzen 5?

It actually could be, but other factors also at play. Like which laptop has better cooling for example.

Anyways, found this, just ctrl+f and search "Cinebench", and you can see the Thinkbook 13s actually scores higher in single CPU score, but lower in multi CPU score.

Actually many software and task still perform in single core.

only heavy software utilize multi core in well

QUOTE(soulseeker6187 @ Nov 6 2019, 02:31 PM)
Yes. In single core intel still have the advantage.
*
ohman also, you look at the other benchmarks like PCMark 10, Ryzen 5 Pro wins all in that category. Different benchmarks will give you different result, can't really conclusively say.

Audio problem is common in Lenovo laptop lol, i have 2 more Lenovo laptop and speakers went totally silent after a few years

Overall lenovo is less problematic than my previous dell laptop, still fast startup etc after a few years.
*
Yeah but its not a deal breaker. Its something i can live with. Worse come to worse claim warranty up to 3 years (God knows how long will that take?).

Also the thinkbook line have hardware maintenance manual, they show you how to dissemble everything up to the last screw.

Hi all sifu here,

I experienced this, not sure the order is confirmed or not:
after place the order at website, received OTP, keyed in OTP, then what's next? I didn't receive any email or info stating the CC is charged...

Should i place another order?
*
If i recall correctly, there is one more confirmation page. Meaning first page you do the TAC sms confirmation, then they will take you to one last page where you need to review again your purchase summary and click the order button again.

Finally when succesful, your last page will be something like this:

CODE
Thank you for your order, fir3man!
Customer name: fir3man
Order number:XXXXXXXXXX
Placed:06/11/2019

Thank you for ordering from Lenovo.

You will also get an email too.

In your case, i would call CS or chat with them since you're not sure what happened. But doesn't sound like your purchase went through.

Yeap the thinkbook 13s fingerprint scanner also works way better than on my T495's fingerprint scanner (I often have to type my pin on T495 because it fails to read my fingerprint).

All in all, this is great laptop.

I saw Lenovo ThinkPad X395 with Citibank card offer for 45% off.
But on X390 comes with Intel cpu, 2k at least more than AMD cpu.

Isn't Ryzen with multitasking better than Intel for Engineering software?
*
You really cannot go wrong with either one. Ryzen gets better benchmarks on everything except single CPU performance.

But one thing people don't talk about of Ryzen because they are too busy talking about performance, is "price".

For the price you pay for a Ryzen laptop (For same equivalent CPU offered by Intel and AMD), it can be anywhere between RM500 and RM1000 difference.

I link the original post because at that time the X390 was RM2000 more expensive than the Ryzen variant X395. Now the price difference has narrowed since Ryzen is getting traction though.

Current starting price as of today:

Just got the 45W slim tip charger. This one smaller compared to the 65W version. Delivery is faster than expected.

How much for 45W slim tip?

RM62.30 (SHOP30) - 14% cashback = ‭RM53.60

I was just experimenting with shopback, actually first time using. Also, can use spare charger in case.
