A university student 20 years old.

I'm still fairly new to the whole public transport thing with cards here.
I want to apply for a KTM Student Card but I'm not sure where to start.

There's like two types of student cards: KTMi-Card and the Student Card
https://www.ktmb.com.my/Card_Menu.html
I'm not sure which one is better for my needs.

I want to use this route from UKM to Serdang (to take a bus to putrajaya sentral)
(red line, bottom right)

I believe the latter card is for the blue line and the first is for the red line? I've no clue honestly. I'm literally matching the words.

I tried to do the research myself but my bahasa melayu is not the greatest and it's fairly difficult to understand even the english on the KTM website; I just end up more confused than when I began.

I also heard there's a Touch and Go student card thing, I don't know if that's better but from what I've heard it is broader in terms of options? I don't think it includes KTM from what I've read, but I'm just gonna ask just in case.

are you a Malaysian?

If you are not a citizen or a permanent resident, I think that you are not entitled for these benefits.

Dear OP,

We're sorry to inform you that these cards may only be applied by Malaysians.

TS is one polite student though. He/she still not answering questions from us. Before you read about those 2 cards, you should read about Komuter colour lines and other rail services from KTM, then you won't be that confused, which card is for which.

Seems like a nice student. So i try to help. First, you need to be malaysian to get the discount.

The KTMi card is for ETS & intercity. Meaning that it is for long distance travel eg from KL to Taiping, Penang etc.

You should get the Komuter Link for Klang Valley travel.

That is my understanding based on the screenshot of the 2 types of cards.

Yeh I'm malaysian, born here raised elsewhere, yup I have an IC like everyone else here. I can kinda get the gist of what the ktm instructions want but I just want to double confirm.
I legit translate every hard word I find, but yknow google translate isn't the be all and end all of translations, so again... double confirm.

Thanks, I feel pretty stupid. red line is seremban line and blue is port klang line.
I guess what I said in the original post holds true in this regard then.

Also, I've seen threads from the past 2 years or more talk about the KTMi-card like it needs adult supervision and i have to still go to the counter to get tokens or something. Is this still the case? I thought they went cashless now? or am i just misunderstanding my supposed mother tongue

From what i know, you'll need a confirmation letter from your uni, stating that you are a student there.

Send your online application. KTM will send you an email probably in a day or two, informing you to collect the card. They'll let you know where to collect it in the email.

You bring the printed email & show them to collect your card.

The process could be different now. The one i explained above was late last year.

It's even simple now,
Ask your University a confirmation letter for ktm student card. Not only just normal confirmation letter is enough.

They will give a confirmation letter regarding that you are eligible to get the ktm student card.

Go to kl sentral before 4pm on working hours. You will find a student card booth there. Give the letter. Then they will ask you to summit some documents on online. Like your PDF file format ic, a normal conformation letter, and student. NOTE all in PDF format.

Just take a normal picture crop and convert to PDF file. Then summit your email. On the Spot you will get verified. And enjoy your privilege ☺

Alright thanks.
When you say "Not only just normal confirmation letter is enough." You mean that a normal confirmation letter isn't enough? only a ktm student card confirmation letter will do?
