Sorry for not replying again for a very long time. All this time I don't have a good internet connection again.

65W TDP capped

The arkintel website for i9-9900 (the non K version) below stated that the TDP is also 65W, so I think it should be no performance cap, right?

Honestly, I've provided lots of options to you previously. TBH I aldy lost track of what are your requirements

QUOTE(Zelmel @ Sep 14 2019, 05:13 PM)
To be honest I also loss track on what he want already. In the end, I found my laptop first.  tongue.gif
Bro no need to think too much, buy what you like, the more you confuse your self on the spec and technical part, the more you confuse.
For me, look at budget, then filter out the spec I want, warranty I want and what I want it to use for.
Laptop is ever upgrading, it never end, so buy something you like and you will love it for many year. My previous laptop is 2008 MacBook, see how long it last, not because it is Mac. Just because I am happy using it.
Hopefully my Acer Predator will last long, although I didn’t expect it to last long as my Mac. But I am happy with my decision.
Also just my extra story, I check on Lenovo Y540 after one week I bought my Acer, now the Y540 customize with GTX1660Ti can upgrade to 144 Hz screen (previous just 60hz, only the RTX2060 can upgrade to 144hz), haha...
Annoying but still I am happy with my own purchase.. tongue.gif

Hahaha. Sorry to both of you for taking too much of your time all this time. I really appreciate your advice all this time.

Anyway, I think I have shortlisted Level51 Forge 15 series, Tech Armory Commando Glock 5 series, or the Lenovo Y7000 series. My original requirement is i7-9750H + GTX1660Ti, but I can consider to upgrade to RTX2060 if the price to upgrade is not too expensive (like the Level 51 Forge 15 Pro) or even downgrade to GTX1650 (Like the Forge 15 with GTX 1650) if I want to save some money.

Anyway, I am still waiting for the MSI GP65/GL65 series with the same spec to arrive in Malaysia. Just in case if the price of that MSI (especially the GP series) doesn't differ much compared to the Level51 Forge 15 series or the Lenovo Y7000 series, I will go for the MSI. Otherwise, I will just go for the Level51, Tech Armoury, or Lenovo.

So far the new MSI that has arrived in Malaysian market are as follow. I think I will wait until the end of Sept/early of Oct to see how much the price for the GP65 series will be.
1) GL65 9SDK 063MY (GeForce® GTX 1660Ti , 6GB GDDR6), RM5699
https://mystore.msi.com/product/gl65-9sdk-g...60ti-6gb-gddr6/

Thank you very much for everything and sorry for the inconveniences tongue.gif

Sorry for my very late reply. All this time I'm a little bit tired because I've been travelling outstation for 2 continuous weeks.

QUOTE(msacras @ Sep 25 2019, 12:48 AM)
Y7000 is having really nice sales now, with the 20% code, upgrade from 1660TI to 2060 will cost you just RM313. Whether it’s worth or not is another serious debate by itself...

Thank you very much for this information. As a student however, am I actually entitled to get discount if I want to buy Lenovo from the Lenovo Malaysia online store (and also from other brands such as Apple (Mac and iPad only), Razer, Dell (seasonal) etc). The student discount that Lenovo Malaysia online store gives at the moment might be almost equivalet (if not better) than the discount that they give to normal people during their seasonal sale.

At that time I didn't realise that the Malaysian authorised distributor also brought in the GP65 with RTX2060, which is shown below:
1) GP65 9SE 245MY LEOPARD (GeForce® RTX 2060, 6GB GDDR5), RM7299
https://mystore.msi.com/product/gp65-9se-24...2060-6gb-gddr5/

MSI website does show that they have the GP series with GTX 1660Ti and GL series with RTX2060, but so far they still not yet sold in the Malaysian market. However, I notice that they are sold on Amazon:
1) MSI GP65 Leopard 9SD-226 15.6" 144Hz 3ms Gaming Laptop, Intel Core i7-9750H, NVIDIA GTX 1660Ti, 16GB, 512GB NVMe SSD, Win10, USD1,449.00

2) MSI GL65 9SEK-024 15.6" FHD 120Hz Thin Bezel Gaming Laptop, Intel Core i7-9750H, NVIDIA RTX 2060, 16GB, 512GB Nvme SSD, Win 10, USD1,449.00

All right, understood also.

2060 isn't that faster compared to 1660Ti, if the price increase is too much then not worth it

I've decided to go for Level51 Forge 15 Pro at this moment. I might need the laptop for a conference presentation by 24th Nov 2019. I haven't check how long does it take fro Level51 to deliver the ordered item (but I will check it in a few more days). If I assume that it takes around 2-3 weeks for the items to be delivered, then I have to do the order at least by the early of Nov 2019. I hope this is the best decision that I've made based on the current situation. One more thing, I might also change to another brand just in case if other brand(s) do any tempting sale by early of November 2019.

I checked their student & educator pricing, it’s generally far worse than their usual sale + discount code price.

Student and educator page can’t apply any discount code at all.
*
If you open 2 seperate tabs (one tab for normal price and one tab for education price), you will notice the price difference.

QUOTE(ZM Fong @ Oct 13 2019, 12:46 PM)
15% for student discount
*
That means the discount that they gave during the recent sale was more (20% as stated msacras vs the 15% education price). I will double-check if there is any more similar sale by Lenovo Malaysia before the time I plan to proceed to order the Forge 15.

QUOTE(ZM Fong @ Oct 13 2019, 12:46 PM)
GP65 and GL65 are about the same, however build quality isn't great and very, if not slightly overpriced
*
Other than the build quality, the remaining difference that I notice at the moment is screen type. GE series comes with 240Hz screen, GP series comes with 144Hz screen, and GL series comes with 120Hz screen.

QUOTE(ZM Fong @ Oct 13 2019, 12:46 PM)
From what I noticed is about a week
*
I message Level51 on FB this morning. For Forge series only, I can get the laptop 2 days (or even 1 day) after I place the order (this statement is only applicable around the time this statement is written and the situation might change after a few days/weeks/months). I think I will proceed to order Forge 15 around the middle of November 2019 (unless if there is other better sale/offer from Lenovo, MSI, Dell, Acer etc. by/before the middle of November 2019).

Hahaha. That laptop is awesome, but there are 2 issues that prevent me from buying it:
1) That model doesn't have a numpad. I need a numpad because my PhD research requires me to key in numbers many time while doing programming and Microsoft excel.
2) That big battery also take the space for hard disk. I prefer the combination of medium capacity SSD (around 500GB) + large capacity HDD (around 1TB) instead of straight away using large capacity SSD to reduce the cost.

If this laptop is successful, the manufacturer might come out with other variants in the future that have numpad, space for hdd etc.

1. Can use external one?
2. SSD is becoming cheaper nowadays
*
All this time I install both SSD and HDD on my desktop/laptop. However, I only install programs on SSD and keep other large files such as photos, movies, music in HDD. I set my Internet Download Manager and Torrent to download the files that I want to download in HDD. I also set my cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox, One Drive) to sync my files in HDD.

The reason why I do this is because I would like to avoid writing unnecessary large files on SSD to increase it's lifespan. HDD is cheaper and last longer than SSD, so I don't mind writing too many large files frequently in HDD.

It might be possible to store my photos, videos, and music in external hard disk (even though it is not convenient), but and external HDD might not be convenient to downlad files with IDM and torrent and syc files with cloud storage.

Even though the price of SSD is cheaper nowadays, it still cannot match the current HDD price. I think I will stick to the HDD for non-critical application (in term of speed).

msacras. May I know how do you know whenever Lenovo Malaysia is making any sale? Do you check the Lenovo Malaysia website/FB page from time to time?

I noticed you tends to survey MSI more than other brands. But you want laptop that is reasonable if not cheaper price. And I can tell you MSI is not cheaper even those GL GP series if compared to peers. You like MSI very much ya? Before I end up with my acer helios I was in love with MSI too. But the price is too much for my budget for the same spec as Helios. Just my opinion. If I have more money maybe I will go for GE instead of Helios.
I am same situation as you. I need big space. So my acer now is 500GB boot drive. 1TB m.2 second slot gaming drive. And 2TB Seagate SSHD for files, photo and backup. Total 3.5GB
If you need storage, Forge15, Illegear, Acer Helios and maybe Lenovo. Lenovo you can max 1TB boot drive + 2TB SSHD. Which is nice combo in my opinion.
Forge and Illegear can max 6TB in some models.

Sorry, it can't be helped - all this time I am really obsessed with that Steelseries RGB keyboard and that heatsink with 7 heat pipes tongue.gif . If MSI makes some kind of interesting sale/promo/offer by the time I am ready to place an order in the middle of next month, I am willing to change my decision from Level51 to MSI tongue.gif .

Most of the videos and articles that I found say that the performance of RX5500 will be in between of GTX1660Ti and GTX1650. GPU card is not my priority at the moment, so I can even consider downgrading my requirement from RTX2060/GTX1660Ti to RX5500/GTX1650 if I want to save some money. However, I think I have to forget about Alpha 15 because userbenchmark (in the link below) shows that the Ryzen 7 6750H is left quite far behind i7-9750H. A faster CPU is an advantage for my usage nature (MATLAB programming), so I am willing to invest more on CPU (as long as I can afford it).

The price of GE65 9SE (RTX 2060) vs GP65 9SE (RTX 2060) does not vary too much, just RM7,599.00 vs RM7,299.00. With this kind of price difference, I think it might be better to buy the GE version instead of the GP version at the moment.

I check their webs regularly, cause I’m on my laptop hunt recently.

Now is year end, where we have 9.9, MyCybersale, 10.10, 11.11 and 12.12 all these big sales events, it’s easy guess that Lenovo will be joining them.

But one trend with Lenovo is that their lowest prices don’t usually fall on those big sales. You really need to do your own homeworks and know the market price of the devices you’re looking for well. There’s a threshold to which how low can it be.
*
All right. I think I will check the website of other brands around once a week to monitor if there is any sale until the day I am supposed to make an order (the mid of November 2019).

To xueqiong, chocobo7779, and ZM Fong, thank you very much for the feedback regarding SSD. I think I will stick to the combination of medium capacity SSD (for installing OS and programs) + large capacity HDD (for storing large files, cloud storage, and downloading large files using doanload manager/torrent client). Chill biggrin.gif

This is my decision at the moment. I will go for the Forge 15 (or Raven SE) with RTX2060 (but I can consider to downgrade to GTX1650 if I judge I should save some money for other purpose). I will not go for Forge 15 (or Raven SE) if I hear many owners complain about quality issues, after sales service issues etc. I may also change to buying other brands if suddenly other brand make good promos/deals/sales/offers and sell their product at value-for-money price by/before the middle of November 2019.

Hello everyone.

Sorry for not replying anything on this thread for a very long time because I was so busy lately. I have decided to go for the Lenovo Legion 5 15" with AMD CPU during the 12.12 sale, but then I changed my mind to MSI GP65 Leopard 10SEK (i7-10750H and RTX2060) once I notice that PC Image listed the price at RM5799 on Lazada without the MSI loot box. The price of this model when it has newly arrived in Malaysia was RM6999, but you can notice that shops like MSI store (on Lazada) and MSI Online store (owned by Gaming Brightstar) reduced the price of this model to RM5999 since the 12.12 sale until the time this message is written.

Personally, the Lenovo 5 15" with the AMD CPU might be better for me in terms of price and performance, but I changed my mind at last minute to go for the MSI GP65 at last minute due to my 2 personal reasons based on my current situations and requirements:
1) Delivery time. The Lenovo 5 15" with the AMD configuration that I want (GPU, screen type, keyboard, RAM, storage etc.) is not available off-the-shelf (even though the same configuration is available off-the-shelf for the Intel version). I have decided to go for the customised model (before I notice about the MSI price reduction during the 12.12 sale, but the Lenovo's website said it takes more than 8 weeks to receive the customised laptop. Meanwhile, the MSI GP65 that I bought from PC Image through Lazada took 3-9 days for delivery.
2) Instalment service. I can get 0% instalment plan if I buy things within a certain price range (I think it should be anything more than RM500) through Lazada using a local's bank credit card. I can also get the 0% instalment plan from Lenovo Malaysia's website using HSBC credit card. At this moment, I only own a credit card from the local bank and not HSBC.

So far, I am happy with the MSI GP65 (even though the Lenovo Legion 5 15" AMD might be better in terms of price and performance). I even type this message from my new MSI GP65. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone in this thread who has spent your time giving me advice all this time on which laptop that I should and shouldn't buy. Keep in touch, all the best in your life, and happy new year.
