My wife is 21 weeks pregnant. We’re interested in getting insurance which covers the baby (before birth and thereafter)

Can you guys share your experience on coverage type and price. How much should I spend on this ?

Also, can any agent contact me and propose a plan ? while coverage might differ, can you also pls be upfront about the cost first ?

Thanks !

Prenatal plan is a plan which provide coverage for expecting mommy and unborn baby. This plan is a guaranteed medical card for the baby although baby is premature or with congenital defeats.
Benefits like:
1. Hospital Allowance for incubator and ICU for baby.
2. Jaundice Phototherapy allowance
3. 30K hospitalised medical reimbursement on listed congenital conditions.
and many more...
As low as RM200/m.

SImple.

Life insurance is to take care of dependent, no one is depending on the baby.

Medical insurance, depends if your company covers your child as well, if they do, you can even skip that.

THe only thing you MIGHT consider is education insurance, that is a form of forced savings, get it only if it makes sense to you financially, if its tight, dont bother, skip it for a later date.

FYI, if you're tight on budget, you can reduce the life part, focus on medical. Life you can re-adjust later.

My experience as below:-

During pregnancy - No insurance..

After Birth - RM200 package.. but this include whole package. Investment/Life/Medical..

But, not my company does cover for Medical whole my family.. feel abit wasted paying RM200 x2.

sekian.

That’s a good price. How long after birth did you get it. I think there’s a grace period right ?

try the aia insurance, coz my sis bought one for her baby boy (she under GX but choose aia lar, coz GX got hard sale her), she once said to me, just go for the simple one and no need to pay a lot, i think its under 200 if not mistaken, you can choose the premium package if you are loaded.. smile.gif

Can anyone recco a before pregnancy baby insurance? If expecting twins, is there an insurance plan that can cover incubator costs?

So far I've only managed to research and found typical medical insurance with statement like "1 million ringgit claims" but actually more towards other medical treatments and not incubator or for/during labour (where the max is capped at RM10K only).

As I understand, incubator can cost around RM5K per night in private hospitals and if cover 2 weeks for twins, can go as high as RM100-150K. Sounds damn heavy damage. Hence, was wondering if there's an insurance plan that can cover this.

I don’t think any insurance company will cover that. With multiple pregnancy (twins, triplets, etc) the chances of preterm birth is high and most likely will incur incubator/NICU cost, which can be very high at private hospital. Insurance company will not insure since the chances are high. Plus, private hospital has limited incubators, so babies may need to be transferred to gov hospital if NICU is fully occupied/other complications happen.

Your best bet is government hospital. You can try your luck with gov hospitals that has Full Paying Patient (FFP) where the waiting time for checkup, etc is shorter and you get to pay for better accommodation. Not sure if they allow the mother to give birth under FFP and the baby admitted to NICU under normal public system, but it’s worth checking with the hospital.

Having said that, 100-150k/baby is the “worst case scenario”. I think average cost for twins is about 20-40k. The charge for incubator depends on the level of oxygen support needed, so it may not be 5k/night every single night.

My advise is to keep both options open. Do checkup at both private and gov. You can make decision on the hospital later depending on the term of the pregnancy.

Dont think any insurance covers twin. Probably wont even get approved during quotation, or else maybe with underwriting pay high premium.
