What is considered legal to be tuned/modified?

If saw some interesting tuning/modification from other countries, can use as reference for local tuners to do a similar job? Mainly aesthetics.

They didn't update that part, but the rest should be applicable.

Define aesthetics. Converting a Kelisa into a Mini look is illegal. Rebadging a MYVI into Toyota Passo is illegal. Widening your fender beyond the width of your car is illegal. So, what is it you intend to change? Changing Halogen to HID is illegal. Putting on a spoiler no wider than your car is acceptable.

Simply put for Malaysia, most mods are "legal", until you are caught ..

How about performance wise? What is considered legal, and can add a little hp here and there

Aesthetics - ricer

Tuner - mod performance

Public eye - both the same

Previously I sold my Golf GTI MK6 with stage 2 remapped, open pod intake, full system exhaust, blow off valve, carbon fiber here and there, KW coilover, sportrim, big 4 pot caliper and etc, all non stock, still can pass the Puspakom inspection and successfully sold.

The most obvious is the car wrapped Petronas green with few big strips, almost look like a track car... smile.gif

So is mod and tune illegal? You can judge from here.

Goddamn 5-O's, hobi kita mahal.

jokes aside, It really all boils down towards your luck.
I've seen lots of modified cars on the roads, ricers or not ... most people who mod their car tend to drive crazily.
so happens a dark navy hilux is nearby when you're driving recklessly, you're gonna get pulled over.
returning home late at night after some heavy drinking session in your fancy ride, you're gonna get pulled over.
having a loud exhaust on that 10yo proton? that's right ... "tepi tepi"

Safest will be building a sleeper, appearance same as stock but inside monster ... you don't really see much of those otr thou.

I was thinking the opposite. Just look cool but inside just enough for city driving.

You sir are a guilty ricer! nothing wrong with that, everyone has their own preference.

For car appearance modifications, most of them are street legal.
Except for a few which is easily noticeable as illegal and you'll face issues with JPJ otr, namely:
-Dark tint
-bright front white lights
-undercarriage glow (neon or LEDs)
-a stanced car
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

I think that kinda covers most of them or not other sifu's please enlighten ...

Waa that one too aggresive/extreme for me.

For me I prefer clean, elegant and stylish look. Like those Wald modifications. Is it on the safe side then?

Also I rarely go out at night, so less likely to kena roadblock.

Go forward and pursue it bro. "want to mod don't be afraid of the law", that's what someone told me when i first got into modding.

Thanks for the advice. Though I’m interested to mod just to make the ride looks nicer, not to challenge the law. biggrin.gif

I’m not really familiar with mods but does Wald combines original parts from other cars for their designs? Coz it seems like it.

But I heard it’s illegal to change the headlights is it?

Wald is a tuning house... Yeah they do incoperate styling of other cars into their kit quite tastefully....

Yeah it's illegal to change the bulbs from normal to hid
Or to led... As for the headlights itself, seems u do it tastefully people don't kacao. Cuz I know for a fact many people have changed their head and tail lamps but never change the hid/led system no problem.
