AUSA 2019: Saab and Boeing announce Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb is ready for production

Saab and Boeing announced at the 2019 Association of the United States Army (AUSA) exposition - held in Washington, DC, on 14-16 October - that their jointly developed Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB) is ready for production.

The announcement follows the latest test firing of the system at the Andøya Test Center in Andenes, Norway, on 26 September. Saab reported in a 14 October press release that the objective of the firing was to hit a pre-determined target in the sea 130 km away and that the test firing was successful. The flight time was 14 minutes, with an impact angle of 70°.

Saab said the GLSDB was test fired from a custom-made, fully autonomous, 6.1 m container, but that the launcher-independent system can also use an M26 launcher such as HIMARS, the M270, the South Korean Chun-Mu, and naval platforms.

The GLSDB is highly accurate over long ranges and can fly complex trajectories and manoeuvres to strike targets that cannot be hit by conventional direct and indirect fire systems, according to Saab. The system has a range of 150 km and is capable of conducting 360-degree reverse slope engagements and defeating both soft and hardened targets, the Swedish company said.

Gagal siap reka bentuk terperinci punca 6 kapal TLDM lewat diterima

Modern Germans have no brains anyway, only know how to sell things

TL:DR

Basically:

- Reports of G36 malfunctions by a small group greatly magnified by sensational press, dubbing it 'the G36 Scandal'.
- German gov under pressure, without even investigating thoroughly via a commission or investigative bodies, announced a prompt retirement for the G36 rifle.
- Later commission determines that no such danger of malfunction has ever been recorded.
- However, the G36 looks aset to be replaced anyway.
- German gov sets some very unrealistic requirements for the new rifle (low weight of less than 3.6kg, yet powerful and penetrative). Experts say the requirements can only be realistically addressed by a 7.62mm weapon, yet the weight restrictions rule out many rifles of this caliber.
- Gov claimed H&K failed in its submission.
- H&K pissed, saying the French has no problem replacing their weapons with H&K products and suspects foul play. Gov claim the french requirement is different to their own.
- Next round of testing will only be done around second quarter of 2020. Many unanswered question remain.
- Issues of replacing G36 doesn't look like it's going to settled soon.

actually what happen at german???saw some poster on reddit before about this and most user bash german govt about it...apparently they fuck up somehow...and its become streak for them now...

QUOTE(MilitaryMadness @ Oct 30 2019, 01:21 PM)
Basically someone gave out a sensational report of german troops somewhere having issues with their G36 rifles losing accuracy either from usage in hot climate or sustained fire. It was claimed that the plastic part that held the metal barrel would warp in either condition and misalign the barrel. This in itself is strange since the rifle and its variants have been in active service for 30 years in many battlefields with many armed forces with no complaints whatsoever.

The German government, under media pressure caved in and ordered the replacement of the G36 without verifying the problem in the first place. When a commission later found out the report to be bogus and no german troops anywhere reported such a malfunction with their G36 rifles, it was already too late, as the defence ministry has set the wheels in motion to find a new service rifle.

While looking for a new service rifle in itself would be a difficult task, the defence ministry gave out certain specifications in the new service rifle that weapons experts think is pretty contradictory. For one, it wanted a weapon with a maximum weight of 3.6kg, however it also wanted a weapon with a level of power and penetration more suited with a heavier 7.62mm weapon. While no mention of cartridge size is specifically stated on the requirements, it is unlikely the defence ministry wants a heavier 7.62mm weapon.

Then on the first round of prototype testing, it was revealed that ALL of the competitors had failed some of the preliminary test. H&K, one of the protoype who failed is pissed off, claiming that the defence ministry is making unreasonable demands and referring to the French Army's decision to rearm itself with H&K's HK416 proving the worth of its products. The defence ministry only replied that the requirements of the french Army is different to its own.

Actually all this happened after a squad of German soldiers was ambushed by the Taliban in Afghanistan and was trapped in a nine-hour firefight. It resulted in three soldiers dead and many wounded..

While a nine-hour firefight can probably seriously damage any firearms however how tough they are, a greater question is on how a firefight is allowed to continue for NINE HOURS and so few air and artillery support is given to the ambushed soldiers. But of course, blame the rifles!.
*
kinda make me wonder how they missed the 9 hour firefight with the damage firearms with both journalist and govt...fact VS speculation is a serious problem nowadays...media keep mixing those and think it would keep the investigation going and getting the truth but rarely see the impact it got to the masses...

I would like to comment long but not now, currently busy with my dad readmitted into ICU due to Lung problem

I only wanted to say that the craftsmanship is not one of the problem because iirc DCNS or now Naval Group actually oversees the quality control due to its name. But rather the other factor that contribute to the lateness is the government itself in this matter.

The official, who cannot be named, told FMT that cyber security is being taken seriously and will be a key component of the military’s “future force”.

“The cyber command’s main duties will be to neutralise external cyber threats, particularly those targeting strategic assets,” the official told FMT.

“A new regiment comprising cyber specialists will be set up to drive the Cyber Command and its operations. Funds will be needed for training and infrastructure, but this is necessary. In this day and age, cybersecurity is priceless.”

hhmmm.....am i the only one see the resemblance of the old govt way in this new govt???all talk and repeat the same thing over and over again.....later when implementation time, only realize the lack of planning plus it need high cost to purchase, operate and train...really hope they think this carefully with planning of how many money need over the years to acquire, maintain and train of an asset...

Sarawak to allocate RM90 million to set up its own coast guard unit, says Sarawak CM

user posted image

Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state government will provide RM90 million to set up the Sarawak Coastal Guard to complement the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) and Marine Police in Sarawak coastline protection duties.

He said this during the tabling of the Sarawak 2020 budget at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly, Kuching on Tuesday.

"In protecting Sarawak coastal areas, marine resources, and Marine Park from external threats and encroachment, the State proposes to set up the Sarawak Coastal Guard to complement the APMM and Marine Police in Sarawak coastline protection duties. A sum of RM90 million will be provided for this purpose.

In this regard, we will also review the Sarawak Fisheries Ordinance, 2003 to strengthen regulatory enforcement in the State riverine and coastal waters."
